instead just because I was in the "radar cone." I'm rarely more than 5
over on the interstate anyway but given all the POP, Lidar, VASCAR, etc.
out there now I'm definitely more conservative than I used to be.

Exactly - when I flew helicopters in the Nationl Guard we used to fly to Fort Campbell for combat simulator training. One set of crews flew the helis down while the other crews drove in a 15 passenger van. On the way back we swapped. I always flew down with a guy who was a Columbus Police Officer. We would drive back between 80 and 90 mph and got stopped at least 3 times. He called it "MasterBadge" and was always boastful about it. Got off every time. So like mentioned why in the hell does he need a RD.

OK let me add another - I own an airplane with a Highway Patrolman that flys for the patrol. We are also friends and when we drive together to play golf he always drives. No not because he has a nicer car - it's so we can get there faster.

And another - my cousin is a Suffolk County policeman on Long Island. When my Aunt moved he drove the U-Haul so he could drive on Southern State Parkway because no trucks are allowed.

You see a pattern here? Maybe it's me but I do. Those that can "do".

With that said I still have the highest respect for what they do.

^ The pattern is that the ones you know use this, not that all do. :)

Deputy, being in the profession, has a different population demographic from which to draw his conclusions.

Just like my wife and I know a few docs who do abuse that same privilege/courtesy, we also know that the vast majority do not. But we know many more doctors than the average American, since we're both in the field - the neighbors of those doctors who do abuse that "courtesy," for example, may think that all do.

It's a matter of perspective. :)

Maybe the ones you've had interactions with are just more, er...., morally/ethically flexible? :)

I am in complete agreement on the fact that it is individuals not the group. My reply however was to the officer in the police forum who implied that police don't need RD because they don't speed. They don't need them because they are immune. But the officers in that forum lump all RD users in the same group and that is wrong. Also admitting to using different standards and harassment against RD users. I was once stopped at a light after an officer pulled up behind me seeing my RD. He pulled me over and clearly stated he could not give me a ticket but would make me late for work. (I did not have the heart to tell him I work my own hours). I now use a V1 hidden now with a remote display away from outside view. I commute 1 hour to and from work and I am constantly passed by drivers without RD's going faster than I drive yet these police want to hold me to a different standard. I think that is simply wrong.

Deputy I am curious - do you use a RD? If not why are you here? Is it to get to know your enemy?

Deputy is a retired LEO and from his sig. owns all the top RDs.

That cop stopping you for no reason is ridiculous. You should have asked him why he stopped you since RDs are legal. You should have filed a harrassment complaint against him. That didn't happen in New Rome, did it?

It is clear to me that underposting speed limits and turning LEOs into tax collectors has resulted in less respect for the law.

Even if they don't abuse the privilege, and only drive 10-15 over like the rest of us, it is very rare that a LEO is going to get a ticket. Here a lot of agencies give their officers take-home cars (good idea IMHO) so that way they don't even get pulled over.

I hope most cops are not like those idiots on that forum. I know some and they are not like that, and they don't really like to work traffic that much. But the ones that are jerks are very visible!

As I have said REPEATEDLY in this thread...just because the people on that forum SAY that they are LEOs, does not MEAN that they actually ARE LEOs. I have NEVER met any LEOs in the 22 years I was on the job that EVER talked like they do. I strongly suspect there are a bunch of wannabes and kids on there POSING as LEOs for whatever reason.
Know my enemy?????? I have more friends on this forum than ANY other forum. I am a retired Deputy Sheriff (Cook County Sheriff Dept) with 22 years on the job. I NEVER considered the public as my "enemy" and I don't think REAL police officers feel that way either. You DO know Radar Roy's history...right?

I suggest you read the above web page before you start tossing accusations around. People have all kinds of personal traffic experiences that could fill up PAGES of this forum...both good and bad. Professional courtesy is given in MANY different jobs. Doctors, lawyers, politicians, priests, EVERY profession gives perks to members of their own following.
That's just the way human beings are.

And as with any profession, it's only those with less moral/ethical "backbone" who will abuse the privileges that come with their position of trust/authority.
