VA detector penalty???

My next door neighbor is a judge. It her court it is 50 bucks plus about 40 or so in court costs, no points. They do not confiscate your detector unless they can't see the serial number. If so they return it to you at the court.

I was thinking about this morning on my way into work. Can a A or DC LEO stop you just if he sees you have a detector or is a secondary offense to like speeding?

I don't know for sure, but my educated guess is if a DC LEO sees your detector they can stop you for just that.

The law section I read doesn't say whether it is a primary or secondary offense.

It is a primary offense, I know first hand (at least in Powhatan County). I had mine on (years ago) under the seat by accident. I rode past a county LEO and he turned around and stopped me for it.

We know it's a primary offense in Virginia. He was asking about Washington DC. See the posts above.

I was typing to fast and missed the V in VA. So thanks for the info. I go to VA Beach about 3 or 4 times a years so it is good info.
