Default Turning on and off your detector at a radar source

I am a newbie to this forum, but not so much to the radar detector world, I was worried about if something would happend to my rx65, if I turn it on and off on a radar source like walgreens. The reason for this question is, because when I turn my car on and off, so does the rx65, would this ruin anything. thanx

It is better that you start your engine first, and THEN start your RX65.Trust me,it's better this way!

Why? Provide some sort of facts with this reasoning.

When I start my car it goes directly to 14 volts and never moves up or down - it doesn't fluctuate a whole lot. Either way as long as it stays above 9 and below 16 - its fine anyway.

It can handle anhything except heat. I t doesn't really matter how/when you turn it on or off. Just amke sure it doesn't cook in the sun and you should be fine.

Because sensitive electronics like RDs don't like voltage/current fluctuations(is this the right word?I am not good in English).I know RDs have built-in voltage regulator but still, this is sensitive device and I think it's better to start RD when the engine is running.About the heat,I left my RX65 "baking" in the car many times, but never had problems.

Pretty much any car that doesn't already provide power to devices when the key is not turned in the ignition is not a concern. These vehicles typically cut the power when you turn the key to "Start" to avoid what you are talking about.

This includes basically ALL foreign vehicles. GM I think still provides an always accessible 12V from the cigarette lighter.

    Mehhhh not really correct...

I have to agree with MEM-TEK and MetalFlame on this one, there are current/voltage spikes that can be left unread by multimeters (even the best digital), and not to mention the 'noise' that is caused from the alernator just being kicked over... it really is best to keep it turned off until after the car is started.
