Another vote fo the XTR-690/Pro-78 -- I own one and it's a fantastic detector.
As far as VG2 on Cobra, VG2 steady on means the detector found VG-2 type emissions, blinking means it detected Spectre I
Both do not affect the oscillator; the Cobras were designed to be immune/undetectable by the two, and only detect these RDD's as a FYI. Most people have found this detection to be pretty unreliable though. Gas stations love to false on VG2

Depending on the model. Mine gives separate alerts for VG2 and Spectre. But I tried it and POP on for one day and my detector went crazy. With everything off, it's a night and day difference.
