came across a camera ka 34.6 (auto patrol),on the way to hamilton the other day and had both my v1 and x50 on board so decided to do a little test.The guy sitting in the van must have thought i was nutts.
pulled over at about 1 km away and slowly moved forwards and backwards till each one had a first alert.V1 won by 75m...so I decided to hold each vertically..well f... me the both nearly doubled the distance for the first alert..
My question to the professer and anyone else, is why this is so much better and should i make a bracket to mount it vertically full time ..NZ also has 34.7 stalker so would this be affected or would that increase also

That is wild. Mount one vertical and one horizontal. Double whammy!

i wonder if it has something to do with the type of radar..since it is a weak signal from the camera im guessin and it is very narrow maybe?

I think it has something to do with vertical polarization.

It's with the polarization... 34,7 stalker shouldn't be affected (except maybe in curves), but major gain with camera

I've seen mounts for various RD's that you can buy online that hold the RD vertically or on it's side.

i had someone recommend that to me for my faulty xr950 which is in the process of being fixed, so when i get it back ill try and find a camera.

ill test it with my RX-55 sideways and see if that makes any difference.

You'll also find a lot of the false K-band alerts will be less severe by mounting the detector sideways. It seems a lot of K-band transmitters are polarized in the opposite direction to the cameras....double bonus!

You'll only lose out a little on the Stalkers; more so off-axis.
