Default Is lens scratches a problem?

I just got my first RD today! Brand new out of the box I noticed that the RD lens has been lightly scratch from the cardboard box rubbing on it. Will this be an issue?

Also, is it normal for the 940 to come without a plastic bag around the RD?

What brand, I have had this happen too. If it is Bel, they should wrap them in plastic but they don't. Is it the front or rear lens? Also was it shrink wrapped and otherwise does it look new?

Since it is new this scratch I assume is slight, typically scratches are no problem even after heavy use. Just really deep gouges can be a problem.

It's a Bel V940 that the front lens (radar end) is buffed scratched. The box was shrink wrapped and everything looks new.

It's fine man, the lens on the front is basically totally invisible to radar. It is there mostly to filter weird IR rays so that the laser diode can do its job and dust protection. But remember the vector series cry wolf on laser all the time. I would not even worry about it at all.

languy99, looking at your sig, you mention high mount. Is this on top of the car? (sorry, I'm new) I have mine suction cupped on the windshield resting on top of the mirror (the stupid thing bottom sags if not on the mirror)

Mounting high means mounting it high on the windshield, like you did.

By high mount I mean as high as I could get it mounted inside the car. Technically mine is basically in the middle of the windshield. Check out this thread to see my custom bracket I made. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...tom-mount.html There are more pictures of the bracket on other pages of the thread.
