Someone suggested using clear packing tape on the dot matrix to get the suction cups to stick. I'm going to give it a try when it's not so cold.
Somebody else suggested scraping off the black dots with a blade...don't know if that is feasible.

They don't have any effect on RD detection at all, from my own testing. When I had the tint strip put on my GMC pickup the tint guy scraped them flat with a razor blade to make the tint lay flat. He said he did it all the time. I was worried about the tint so he cut a slot in the tint so my X50 could just sit behind it. Didn't really matter as the wife took a road trip that day and broke the windshield. I got a factory tinted one this time and put the cups below the dots.
Hrmm, I really don't want to put it below the dots b/c it hides my RD perfectly, but I'll see if 'just below' will keep it out of view.
The dots are embedded in-between the glass layers in the Impala, so they are not raised on the surface and have no effect on suction cups. Tint shops put a layer of black vinyl film over the dots when doing tinting, because tint over the dots looks like crap. If you get that black vinyl, you should again be able to use suction cups in the area.
I have the raised dots on the rear glass also at the top sectioon. When I had that tinted they painted that section black to match the tint. Otherwise the tint turns out terrible. Wish those dots were not there, it would make a great spot to mount the video camera.
I had those raised black dots on my 02 Grand Marquis but had the windshield replaced due to a crack.
The shop said they call the black dots "the third visor" unknown why else they are there.
I had my choice for the new one to have dots or not,
I am so glad I don't have them now as my V1 is mounted where they were.
Price was $145 total.
I tried the clear packing tape this morning (over the dot matrix). It did not work. I think I need to install fresh suction cups on the V1 - - I suspect the ones I am using are original and are fairly flat when removed from the windshield.
DJ, thanks for the tip - - I may give that a try. However, I think I've got a bunch of new suction cups for the V1 and from previous detectors.
