Will radar detectors ever be "outlawed"?

I doubt if we'll ever see a total ban. Truth is, RDs only work well against poorly trained, lazy LEOs.

Those hot-shot LEOs WILL GET YOU, RD or not :eek:

The safety feature is actually really nice in my opinion. But not all communities have this "feature" on their emergency vehicles. It's just a special strobe style light mounted on their light bars. I've never had a false alert with the safety feature.

This is pretty much the only true statement that isn't "reaching" in this entire thread.

Radar detectors are designed to detect radar.

If you aren't PLANNING to speed, you don't buy one.

If you are an average joe and accidentally got a ticket (speed change and not paying attention, underposted PSL [all of them, heh], BS 6 over ticket from a sheriff or trooper having a bad day, etc) then you pay more attention and correct your driving habits.

If you speed every time you drive, you probably own a RD. LEOs see it as "intent to speed" and I agree with them 100%

Bottom line, you have to call a spade a spade. Radar detectors exist so that people can speed. Any other benefits they come with are merely by chance, or are a marketing ploy.

But, no worries. They're legal and here to stay.

Nah they won't be. Not concerned at all. Even if they are, they will still be produced, and used just like every other illegal thing in this world.

Radar detector is a radio receiver, federal law allows reception of any radio signal (celluar exluded) Federal law pre-empts state law.

Or you're like me who got a speeding ticket while going 10 under the limit but apparently because it was raining it was considered dangerous conditions. I near immediately went out and bought an RD.

With the dawning of the internet ignorance in todays youth is far less than the previous generation. Most people my age today know speeding tickets are nothing but a tax and I live in a Green Party majority area ffs.

Because people care, radar detectors are being attacked a lot less today than previous administrations. I wouldn't worry about any new laws coming into play. However, the future is completely unknown with every new person elected. All it takes is one strong authoritarian to stir the pot, in the future.

I highly doubt it'll grow in the US. Many states have no reason to if you think about it. Your average 16 year old who buys the 50$ wal-mart special and then believes that his ESD series RD is going to make him invisible to radar is one of the state's revenue sources. The state knows that inferior radar detectors that most people buy from best buy or walmart gives people a false sense of security, thereby letting them issue more tickets.
