Plus then you could drive and be 100% safe with jammers
Laser is growing. It sucks when all States start to ban them too :(
I have a feeling in time they will be banned

True, but it would be bad if they banned jammers and gave it strict penalties and fines when caught having one.

I would say a 955 would be a good detector to start off if you are staying under $200 but V1 FTW if you go all out and you will love it! Then think about jammers next since Laser is a growing threat now:mad:

Probably because if there was only laser they would ban the use of active jamming.

I still would like that risk over the risk Of I'O but that maybe just me?

Well, I found out NYPD Highway runs KA band. I'm now debating the V1 or the Redline. I keep hearing how good the redline is, but I don't think there is that much of a difference then the V1. Its 100 bucks more, is it really worth it to get the redline? I want to make sure I make the best choice the first time.

Re: Radar Detector Newbie/Need Help Choosing One :)
I disagree with above claims the 8500 is the best at sub 200. You can find the Escort C65 for around 180. It uses the M4 platform and has a USA mode to help with Ka band detection range and reaction time. My GF has one and its very impressive for the cost.
This is all assuming you change your mind AGAIN and decide to only spend less than 200 :p

YouTube - V1 save against NYPD Ka
While I haven't personally used a V1 (only an Escort 8500 x50 and currently Redline), based on the V1 videos I've seen here, I get the impression the V1 alerts on the slightest blip (false positives?) while the Escort's filter better (true positives?). This might also explain why the V1 is said to trump the Escort's in I/O encounters.
Personally, I've been very happy with the performance of the 8500 x50; I've never received a non-LIDAR ticket since owning it and the Redline seems to alert about 10 - 25% sooner based on my own non-scientific measurement.
But at the end of the day I think you'll need to make a decision between as much information as possible (V1) at the expense of false alerts, or greater certainty of an active threat at the expense of a heads up notice.
Either way, good luck, and let us know what you pick and how it turns out. :thumb2:
