It is interesting to see the amount of leakage by a plain radar detector, and the range of how far that can travel and possibly effect our radar detectors.
What, if any, is the detectable range a better built Beltronics/Escort/V1 compared that to a Cobra/Whistler/PNI from a Spectre RDD, or another way of asking this question, what are the amounts of leakage comparatively. Are they basicly all the same. Or is their a significant difference? I am not asking because of evading a RDD, but rather a better understanding of theis interference. You hear it all the time, falsing from other detectors. Yet I can only speculate that I may have had, maybe, one time, a "false" (K band) due to another RD. I have been side by side with all of them, even next to my friends Cobra XRS or what ever it is, and nothing.
I was on the road this weekend, and I was on a look out for those possible Ka frequencies that were way off their normal numbers, knowing the tech display is not very accurate, and to figure out if troopers do run some bad guns (that I need to use Ka wide mode) or maybe I just did write down bogus numbers, but I swear I did not, tripled checked, wrote it down on the spot! But who knows.
Well this is the thing, I took my road trip and nothing going up. Coming back, highway mode, Ka wide, got a week Ka 34.7 blip (tech mode said 34.680), it went away, but came back, away again, back and forth. I fliped it into Ka narrow, to see if the strenght increased. No change, weak Ka 34.7 (34.600). Time was getting to be very long, and I was thinking either the trooper is ahead or behind traveling same directing and I was going to have a boring drive (yeah, yeah, I hear all you V1 people saying "gotta get the arrows").
Anyways what happens next is basicly all within the same period of time, my wife says that SUV that passed had a RD on the windshield! I was very intrigued, I have never had a Ka false. So I plow forward and verify it is a Cobra XRS (sorry folks, what ever the model is), but now we roll up on a trooper (34.7xx) opposite side of the road, then sitting next to the SUV, nothing, then again we spot another trooper going past us opposite direction also (34.7xx). So now I am sitting dead silent next to the SUV with the Cobra. And the nthe next minute again I get a Ka alert and then verify a trooper. It was a bee hive for 50 miles of troopers.
I tell you I was getting a little frustrated with a big part of the drive with all the weak Ka blips. Yeah sure I did go on to find the trooeprs. And I know I can trust my RD because of past experiences. It is just that this "interference" factor is bugging me now. Go figure resolve one issue Ka wide or narrow. Now do I really have to worry about getting Ka "falses" from other detectors.
I hope this make a little bit of sense.
