Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
well from what I know that company has stolen designs from belscort and bypassed their patents. They have also stolen from blinder and who knows from who else..
look here http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-holder-2.html check out the antenna design, clearly too sophisticated of a design to not have stepped on any patents.
Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
I still would want my windshield RD to be mounted high, that unit would be cumbersome near the head liner.

That would definitely look like a simple aircraft radar situational awareness display unit. Even suggested that the confirmed detected threat be broadcasted by the combo RD/GPS to friendly units thru GSM / mobile carrier and that data stands valid for 24 hrs before expiry. In that way the RD could become an intelligent networks of RD detectors that help each other out of trouble.
It might seem a little ambitious and complicated though. But maybe someday it could be feasible and cost viable.
XM Radio as well. :)

Cobra is inevitably heading in that direction.

GPS + database > stopwatch. Provided someone submits the trap to the database before you come to it. ;)

Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
Maybe the Redline-ix can be built into a GPS unit. Since Escort already uses GPS technology in the 9500 series, the GPS hardware can do double-duty as a navigation aid as well as a countermeasure aid. And by using the M3 platform, it can be Spectre proof. Next, add a panic button that disables the RD function (making it function only as a GPS) for when you get pulled over in communist places like VA. Afterward, enter a special code to re-enable the RD function.
Another idea I thought of is to have a Spectre-proof RD inside a housing that makes it look like a garage door opener remote. Stick it up on the visor, hardwired, and none would be the wiser (thieves and LEOs).
Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
It could communicate with you cell phone via bluetooth and your smartphone could upload the info via an app working in the backroundto the database. In my mind only live threats woUld be uploaded and the would only remain on the database as a live treat for 1 hour. The live treats can be downloaded to the navidetector via fm like traffic updates are on current navi systems. The system user would have the option to have alerts for other reported now non-live threats (like trapster but with greater user control of alerts). The touch screen could relay more information about the treats (band/vascar/enrad/ mobile/stationary/speed cam/red-light cam) and could offer rerouting around threats). The greater size of the unit could accommodate new designs in horns both foward and rear facing, and with VRs patents expiring you can have arrows too. For Escort trulock can be refined to identify additional sources of signals in the geographic lockout area that may be a threat.
Escort are you listening? You have the technology, just put it together.
Escort are you listening?

Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
First time I see spectre-proof rd aside the Sti/Redline.
I would be extremely cautious before riding their rd in banned area ...
till positively proven undetectable.
Original creators of rdd-proof rd will surely drop an eye on their design for patents cloning.
Re: RD disguised as a GPS bracket/holder
It doesn't look that bad honestly.
