Default POP cannot be used in court?

I think this may have been talked about in a different forum but I havent really gotten a straight answer. like whats the point of pop when the company that made pop urges the LEO not to use it to write a citation? like maybe i can understand they use pop to indicate if the car is speeding..then use the instant on. But really...should we really care about pop even though MPH urges LEO not to use it for writing a citation and the fight it in court. and is pop mode even admissable in court?

Sure, we should care about POP. It can alert us to the fact that we might be hit with instant-on very soon. It can give us prior warning that we might get hit with instant-on.

i see. its just i dont think that cops would spend that much time using pop and then instant on..when in fact he can just push the buton on the remote control and get an instant on reading. if i were an leo...i would just hit the instant on switch n get a reading seeing i dont want to go through the hassle of using pop and then instant on. its all about time efficiency 4 me.

Your forgetting the reason why POP came out. When it was originally thought up no detectors of the time could detect it, so a LEO could be as casual with his or her POP use without alerting any RD users, so when he felt a speed was close enough for him to tag, he simply could hold the trigger for (1/2second) longer and boom instant on ticket.

The theory was that the LEO could POP as many vehicles as he wanted, without warning any RD users, to effectively make RD's useless. (Now of course they can detect POP... the 67 dose anyways).

With instant-on use by the LEO, RD users of the time (just like today) can get warnings beforehand if he/she is targeting cars up the road (aka a rabbit).

"so when he felt a speed was close enough for him to tag, he simply could hold the trigger for longer and boom instant on ticket." so the longer you hold the trigger...does it become automatic instant on but diff band (k or ka) for a precise accurate reading?

POP operates on the same band as regular radar (K or Ka) so no it won't be on a different band. But yes, on the Z-Series all they have to do is hold the trigger oin longer and it goes to instant-on. On the BEE3/Enforcer all thay have to do is hit the transmit button a second time...

The 'band' remains the same,so K-band POP is just an EXTREMELY short burst (67ms commonly) of k-band, they hold the trigger for a 1/2second or so longer (depending on model) and it switches from POP mode to instant-on, which would still be k-band.

EDIT: Jim already replied as I was typing /EDIT.

I don't know many people that own a RD, in fact, I think I'm the only one in my circle of family and friends. Do you think LOE are that concerned about RD users when in fact they probably represent less than 2% - 5% of the total number of cars on the road.

While I'm sure they get more pleasure ticketing an RD user, over a non-user it would seem from a revenue standpoint there isn't a real justification to invest in sophisticated radar guns and alter their usage when there are so many cars without RD speeding on a daily basis.

Hey don't tell me about it, I don't oversee Law enforcement agencys traffic enforcement spending, I am just telling you what POP was all about as far as its original intent and such... What your saying is part of it though so many people dont have RD's and so many people speed there is no shortage of speeders out there for LEO's to catch...

And they often catch kids and their Cobras or RadioShacks (when the hooligans think they have the next Top-Notch RD), so they catch enough RD users as it is anyways... because of this:
So many people think they dont work...
And thats just fine with me.
