    Default whistler vs escort

I bought a new whistler cr90 and an escort 8500x50 black from escort. I must say, what is all the hype about escort. Cr90 is within seconds and sometimes beats it on ka. It does beat the cr90 on k, but not that much. Just my 2 cents. detectors we're running separately, and I had cruise control on on a stationary radar source.

The hype tends to be for there more expensive units like the RedLine and Max that are very good RD's with top tier range. X50 Black is great too, but a good Whistler will be close in range.

The hype you refer to could be from Belscortbra (Bel/Escort/Cobra) where the ads stretch the truth some to a large degree. Or it could be from the members who notes that the Black unit's performance is just behind a filtered V1 or the old filtered Redline, not a bad cost effective unit. As you note the Whistler or Escort or any other unit at times will perform about the same due to the fact that your driving in to a narrow radar beam where the alarm will only be a second or so apart where no reflections are seen due to the terrain. But in time, you could see alarms differ a minute or so depending on the lay of the land and where the beam of the radar travels. As you note, the Escort out performs the Whistler. At times, it will really out perform the Whistler under certain conditions. Something you have to understand, for every -3db in gain, that is doubled. Example, looking at a -110db unit and a -113db unit, the -113db unit is twice as good (sensitive) but NOT twice the detection distance, mostly only a slight increase in detection distance due to the way radar acts......... I've had a wooded 6.3 mile K band road sign detection in North Mississippi with a V1 (luck), and a 8 mile strong 34.7 Ka Stalker detection in North Alabama (mountain, high fog cloud), which is uncommon. What are your max distance detections so-far with the 2 units?....The hype might be the way that your thinking that the Black unit should blow the Whistler away every time about a mile or so. It will not happen that way with mostly any unit.....
