That highly depends on terrain... and how good your set-up is (installed) overall.

If your radio is stock (~3 Watts is common from the factory)...

Under most 'normal' conditions:

TX- (5-6miles I would say... as the crow flies... aka:straight line, maybe 8 or so on a good day).

RX- (HIGHLY depends on what other users [truckers] have): ~10Miles. Some with monster rigs... you might hear 15,20,25+miles away.

If your radio is peaked and tuned... I would bump TX up to ~8Miles, maybe 10/12 on a good day/terrain.


You just never know.... it depends on so many factors that it is hard to just say 'Guaranteed 10 miles'.

I have gone solidly over 15miles (with some power on the other end) with my 510 (peaked and tuned to ~20watts) and my 1K (with extended whip.)


Remember that may not all sound like too much, but that is 'as the crow flies' in other words: straight line. So that 5-6miles could very well be 8-10 miles ahead of you on the road.

Breaker breaker 19..anyone copy?

So I've yet to properly install my cb but the Cig lighter isn't all that bad as long as its not raining :D

NO pics cause i was gonna wait until i had it properly installed but I did get to test out the set up..

I went on an unexpected trip (1200 miles) all Highway .. at night the cb was pretty much dead but damn during the day i was blown away.

I caught only 2 bear reports but i couldn't figure out where he was.

there was a snow storm that closed several roads and it was awesome when people on the CB gave me that status of all the roads and the BEST route to take. Including a 40 Mile heads up on an accident ahead which we were able to get around by exiting and re entering the highway further up.

I am going to tune my antenna tonight ....i was talking on it even though I know I'm not suppose to..hope it didn't cause any damage (kept it all very short)

we took my friends car (advantage of the cig adapter) and at one point she told me to turn off the CB cause it was useless... so i ask her to get on it and ask about the road conditions up ahead sure enough we got great information and she shut up :-)

Made a believer out of me as well :D I do a LOT of interstate driving for work and the CB has helped me out MANY times.

well I picked my stuff up from CB Radios & CB Antennas - Cobra, Uniden, Wilson, *** & Firestik

GI JOE'S: CB RADIO - CB RADIO ANTENNA - SCANNER - CELLULAR Has some of the best prices I can find.

I got my CB at radioshack it was i think 70$ but it was the only one so i got the display one for about half that price.

Then while i was at a Petro truck stop i picked up my K 30 magnetic antenna. For about 25$

There isn't a 510 in the world with the stock finals that ever made 20 watts!

The bigger truck stops have CB gear. Pilot truck stops also have some nice RDs as well. I saw an STi Driver for $449. Almost got it but settled for a broken V1 :eek:

Truck stops have all kinds of CB radios, CB microphones, antennas, GPS, etc. Check it out.
