do they have handheld ones? do i need a license to use one?
they do make handheld CB's, though they arnt as good as regular ones. and no you do not need a license to operate one.
I have a CB with a AM/FM antenna splitter and a "real" whip antenna for longer trips... cost me nothing, so definately worth it 8)
I've used that setup before. I thought I got pretty reasonable performance for such a stealth installation.Quote:

Yeah I remember those setups. I think they came out in '77-78 to cater to the massive popularity of the CB, Smokey & the Bandit is a big factor  GM used the same units in pretty much all their car-lines, I know Cadillac had them as well, I think the units are identical. I wonder if they used the glass-mounted antenna? I recall a "standard" antenna mounted on the quarterpanel was availible on them, maybe CB-only? I have a very early 1970's (I think 1972?) Jerrold 23-channel CB in my 1976, lying in the hole where the 8-track is supposed to go. Not hooked up, but then again, my Firebird isn't really going, well, at all for the moment ;)
It's very interesting how one little fuel-saver legislation (55mi/h speed limit) could start such a huge public "revolution", the CB craze, radar detector industry, all the stuff we love today. :D
I am surprised you don't know what CB is lol. But since you live where I live I would say check out any truck stop or cb shop.Quote:

A cb is good on long trips. There are 40 channels and all truckers use only one channel and that is 19. If you want you can use another one and you just tell whoever you are talking to, to go to another channel.
If you want to know if there are cops ahead just ask.
Example: What did you leave behind you west bound. A trucker may say I saw 2 county mounties on your side with a 4 wheeler at about the 132. That being the mile marker or exit.
Hey happya$$, so you got the Midland 75-822 8) Happy with it? Just curios please, how much did you pay for it (brand-new?) and from where? Around me is just one store, DurhamRadio, that sells this item, C$179 (US$150) plus tax... TIAQuote:
