What I don't like about my V1

You prolly have the V1 on advance logic mode(Big L). With this option, you will not receive K band alerts until the 30sec timer is up or if the strength goes past 4 LEDs. If you had it in only logic mode(little L), then you will see all the K alerts, but you won't hear them. I assume ooj3k has it on logic mode. In logic mode, the alerts will become audible once the timer is up or if gets 4 LEDs. Hope this helps...

absolutely this helps, thanks. i always keep my V1 in Big L mode, I need to switch it to little L to see what happens.

Even so, my V1 is quite a bit more quiet than it has been with the above settings. It still could be better tho.

kick ass! it works. my v1 is much quieter, it's like having a new detector. can't believe i hadn't done this for all these years. now i just have to make sure k and ka sensitivity aren't reduced to become an issue, it take awhile to know that around here. cops are rare, it'll probably take me about a month. thanks again for the help guys, i now think i can live with my v1 for another year or so (until they come out with something new like gps).

These settings will not affect Ka and you can still leave it in advanced logic mode if you have the responsibility of simply switching to (A) mode (overrides K automute) at places that you remember LEO hangs out if you want that early warning from I/O or if you are simply speeding in an unknown area.
This is what I have to do automuting all eight LED's because of drones.

No way to kill start up.
Other things you can do since you want more is turn off X if not used in your location.
Turning off POP will get rid of most of your junk alerts
Can't do anything about laser unless you turn it off, go to a 1.7 or find a way to give that laser prism sunglasses.

Adding (G) turning off rear K band will also help you as you will have times that automute breaks the time or signal strength threshold, as you pass the source and the signal goes to the rear antenna all eight LED's of breakthrough will be remuted, it's as if your passenger hit the mute button for you.
(A) mode overrides this as well.

If you turn the volume all the way down before you start your car or V1 you can kill the annoying start up noise. Thats what I do, but you do have to remember to turn the volume back up.

Another trick is to immediately hit the mute button on start up, at a minimum it mutes the laser part.

Muting rear antenna made a big difference for me with my mute volume down to zero. Have been using small L since and very happy with the settings.

For the few of us that live in LEO X band areas I feel anything other than A mode is taking a big risk.

It's extremely hard to persuade any one to use this feature, they get scared at the thought of turning off the rear antenna but in actuality in logic mode you still see the LED's and all we are trying to do is get more false suppression when we need it.
Like I said simply switching to (A) mode overrides all K automute settings when you don't need it.
Great feature and on some versions it will work without setting (7) (regular automute) think it is only 1.7's

(A) mode is not bad if you don't drive much but if you drive a lot or drive for a living that's gota suck.

It also depends on where you are doing the driving. If it is rural then yeah A is crazy. If I drive in Newark then it is one constant X Alert in A mode.

There is always compromise. With all the factors surrounding each individual and where they drive there is really no one fit for all.
