    Default i finally bought a v1

iv been wondering on these forums for a while and and couldnt make the desicion to buy another bel rx65 or x50. i read all the reviews here and some how i have decided to try out the v1 now. i really wanted more range on all bands then what my rx65 gave it gave desent warning bought alot of close calls. iv heard the v1 has much better range and it is alot more sensitive and it always alerting to something.. frankly some people find that annoying but i luv the constant alerts.
i placed the order about 30mins ago, it should arrive tommrow sometime. im really kinda excited to be honest. Is there anything i should know about v1 spefically. any flaws with the new model. or anything i should do immediatly when recieving it.
should i expect a bigger range with the v1? also how accurate are the arrows?

also am i one of the cool kids now?

When you get used to arrows you won't be able to go back to anything else.

The LEDs don't quite have perfect diffusion.

Put it in anycar you drive

Unfamilarwiht your current model, I picked up C/O K band over a hil and around the corner well over a mile away.

Front and back are just about dead on, barring the exception of a slight delay in switching front to side to back on weak signals.

    Yes. 8)

I am not aware of any defects with the 3.863's that are shipping now. Other than one person has reported they seem to like to play chicken little with laser a lot compared to earlier versions. As I reported yesterday too, my out-of-car testing shows that the V1 alerts to laser with bright LED flashlights at close range, laptop LCD panels, and even flourescent lamps at close range. Of course, all of these sources can strobe IR so perhaps the V1 is just demonstrating superior laser sensitivity. I'll let everyone know more about this once I get on the road.

You should expect better range on the V1 compared to the RX65 and the arrows are very accurate in front/back direction, though the switch to side might lag a second or two with actually passing the source.... i.e. it's not perfect (hardly a surprise) but provides very vital information.

The V1 will work great with its out of the box settings, it's one of those no-nonsense detectors. You turn it on, set two volumes, and mute it by pushing the only button that can be pushed on the unit. Easy interface. There aren't 4 buttons on the top that leave you guessing in the heat of the moment which one switches to City or which one mutes the thing...

Some people recommend turning off POP to reduce false/J alerts. I haven't had enough on-road time with the V1 to figure out if this is the case. If you do experience high numbers of short Ka or K blips with no explained source, you can try turning off POP.

Another luxury is configuring K-band automuting, which can be helpful in areas with dense K-band coverage.

Also, read the V1's manual -- it's really a well-worded coherent manual that provides valuable information on interpreting alerts and normal modes of operation.

Instructions on programming the unit can be found at http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

It might look frightening at first, but it's really not all that difficult if you follow the chart. The only downside is that it's not like the Rx65 and other detectors where you can do the programming without a manual because the detector lists what each option means in the menu. With the V1, you need this chart to program it. I recommend storing a copy of it in your glovebox if you think you'll need to configure the unit on the go.

I recommend this thread,to every new V1 owner.RacerX did a GREAT job and explained in detailes how auto-mute and other programming options works

I just ordered mine on Dec 19 and it came Dec 20... I'm going to configure and automute K band but how do you mute laser.. it's so annoying. Is it because my car has intelligent cruise control. It goes off even though i'm not using it. Is Laser really that important in Los Angeles County?

You can turn off laser via programming, and if your car has IR powered adaptive cruise, you will get constant laser falsing.

I have always wondered if that intelligent cruise control (laser) was always active even if the driver is not useing it... or is there an auto/standby setting for crusie control as other vehicles have a seperate on/off switch before actually using cruise control... set etc.

The reason why is becuase the few times an infinity has triggered my V1, the type of traffic would not allow cruise control, unless you tell me IT is that good.

even with it on, it still says laser detected. It might be from neon signs or whatever that can send out laser. I use Cruise control a lot even when there is mild traffic as long as im crusing 30 mph +. very comfortable. Do CHP or the cops in california use laser frequently?
