    Default V1 software upgrade prices

I have a V1 1.7, and by putting in serial #s at their website, I have seen upgrades on used V1s range from 85-279 dollars. I figure that 279 is the max for an old 1990s V1, but I worry that if I don't upgrade now at 229, it could go way up. I would rather keep an old one, and just buy a new one for 399 or so- that way I can always have V1 protection in two cars without swapping them out.

ANyone have opinions on the value and cost of upgrades in the future?

Well they aren't exactly 'software' updates. Most of the revisions of the V1 has hardware changes associated with them, and those prices will likely incrementally go up as the number of changes increase. I expect whenever "1.9" comes out there will be a big jump in price. Whether or not 1.7 people are safe from that price jump is not clear.

I'd doubt it'll go up since no major hardware upgrade has been released anytime soon, unless VR would make the v1 Spectre proof.
BTW I believe Beatlesfan would be more suit to comment on upgrade prices

My upgrade price was also $229. I bit the magnesium bullet, and I'm happy I did. The slimmer casing, digital temperature thingamagigger, POP, J out feature, and knowing that I have the latest laser and Ka performance really gives me peace of mind while driving. Also while at home or sleeping. None of us are really too sure about what the future holds for our V1's. I asked it and it "J'd" my question. If you have the spare $400 then by all means buy a new one and keep both. Or buy a new one and upgrade the old one. Either keep it or sell it on ebay to someone in Europe for $450+. By the way, if you upgrade they'll just send you a new V1, in the box, with all new cords/mounts/suction cups/etc. I use the big cups as they work better during Indiana winters, and they seem less likely to drop $400.

Also, if you don't upgrade now, when the new shiz comes out you'll still have the 1.7 and the upgrade will cost you even more. Some people on here still have 1.7 and wouldn't use anything else. You could buy a new one, try it out, and if you like the old one better simply send it back within 30 days for full money back; minus shipping of course. Good luck!

If VR came out with 1.9/2.0, is it covered in the one-year warranty?

Of course it would be. It would be the new V1. The same as if you bought 1.7 when 1.7 was he new one.

I did love that about my 1.7. It kind of angers me when I'm driving and get a weak Ka blip and then I have to drive the psl for 5 miles... :x

It's digital temperature compensation. There's a few threads on it you can search for to find out what it does. "J" is what the V1 does for "Junk" (Hence the "J") detectors. Cobras will emit some false Ka signals and the V1 knows it's a junk detector and "J's the alert".
