You aren't the first person to report at least a suspicion that K-band detection isn't working properly. The V1 is my only detector...how can I be sure that it's working when I don't have a redundant unit?
I wonder if this is a heat issue? Reports like this didn't start showing up until early summer when temperatures started to climb. I'm starting to think that maybe the LO is getting thrown out of whack by excessive temps in that black metal case which absorbs LOTS of solar radiation. Even after driving I find that it is sometimes too hot to touch, even when it's mounted high and the in-cabin temps are perfectly acceptable.
What's more, I have never seen evidence of V1 producing error codes. I have to wonder if they even exist. Off-normal conditions are a fact of life when dealing with sensitive electronic devices and the Belscort "self-cal" and other messages are one way to deal with it. Maybe VR has gotten cocky, thinking that their units are too durable to need a fail-safe.
On the customer service, I have only had a bad time when the phone is answered by one particular woman who sounds a bit older. She always acts as if I'm imposing on her with my phone call. Every other voice I have heard has been extremely friendly and helpful. If you can to talk to any of their techs you won't be disappointed.
Yes, V1s do have POST errors. My 1.7 developed one after having my car jump started. According to VR the code I got indicated a memory problem (the chip must've fried from a surge). I don't know if it has any LO calibration POST errors though, nor do I know if it does any kind of self calibration on power up.
i know my snooper doesnt have any fault code thing, then again i think its only simple electronics. and on 2 occasions i've started my car up with the thing on and its give an x band signal...
i think they should have some error system built in them,, they probibly have some sort of thing where they connect the v1 by the acc port to their computers which have various software etc to read the codes and faults,
Definitely send it back to VR to be checked.
If your X50 showed 24.150 ghz on display counter, then it's on specification of K band because K is from 24.050 - 24.250 GHz.

I just had to jump start my car the other day. I left my 2-way on all night and half the day before, so the car was dead. I haven't noticed anything really, but that's interesting that it failed after you jump started. I have it on a fuse, but I dunno. The only thing is that I didn't get a blip when I passed that cop today. but I don't even know if he was shooting. Usually they are shooting either Laser or K-band though. I have never NOT seen them out shooting. So that was kinda weird. It still goes off at it's normal K band false locations though. But maybe it's time to send in for an upgrade. I got my 2003 ammended tax return refund back the other day, so maybe I can put some of that money to good use!
