Can anyone who understands the science behind this better than I do come up with a reasonable, workable, affordable, permanent solution to this issue?
And can anyone figure out why RD manufacturers and auto companies haven't already tried to find a mutually acceptable solution?
It is not politically correct for automakers to accomodate RD users so don't look for any kind of solution in the near future. If you were to contact the automakers on this issue, they will probably reply back and say that they do not condone the use of radar detectors and that you shouldn't be using them.
Maybe if they become common enough, there will be enough of them to interfere with the operation of K band radar and it will be abandoned by police traffic enforcement, but that means more Ka radar being used. OTOH they have been talking about radar cruise control (or lane assist) being commonplace for years now, but it has not happened yet.
Let's hope that it stays optional and expensive!

I remember reading somewhere (here I think) that auto makers are using K band because of cost. It is the cheapest option for them

Lane assist is $900 MSRP on the S5, and the cruise control is $2100.
Fortunately I've only run into one Benz with the K band emitter. Unfortunately they live in my neighborhood. I leave for work earlier now so I am not on the road at the same time LOL.
