Thanks for the comments unmamfqlm and spartcus. I will give it more time and see what happens.
I also failed to mention that the car I've been running it in does have lightly tinted windows, including the windshield.
I was under the impression this might shorten the range, but could this also filter out certain bands (Ka) completely?
Tint should not have anything to do with *filtering* RADAR, it will mess with LIDAR though, but if you have a metallic tint that will screw with RADAR.
I may be incorrect on non metallic tint not effecting RADAR much, if at all so maybe someone else can chime in.
It took me over a month to get a laser alert, and several weeks for me to finally get a Ka hit. If you want the thing to start chatting more to test it, turn pop on, X on, and ka guard off. It should be going off so much you want to toss it in the river.
To test Ka in general, turn POP on for a week, and wait for a cobra to pass you who is leaking Ka. This is for testing reasons obviously.
Your software is 3.872
Your hardware is 1.8 both are the newest
All refurbished models have the latest stuff, and come with normal warranty.
You sure the blue tint strip wont affect the V1 radar detection range? If thats true, I'd like to mount mine higher, behind it.
I do not see it effecting it to any real extent unless it is a metallic tint strip, maybe test it out on some auto opening doors? I have mine mounted right at the point where the tint really fades outs to normal so my rear antanne can see from the obstructions in the automobile.
Tint strip will effect laser, not that it matters lol[/QUOTE]
The kind of blue tint I have is the smoked kind. It was "smoked" into the glass, so I'm assuming its non metallic. Don't care about laser detection all that much as I'd be screwed anyway. Plus, thats why I bought the LI'.s Its radar, specifically I/O radar I'm afraid of...
Re: New V1 Owner in SoCal - Having Doubts...
Thanks ExoticRadar and Freebird. I didn't know it was all laser around here which explains a lot.
Pretty much makes the V1 useless in HB right?
Have either of you also disabled K then?
Thanks for everyones input. :)

V1 is useless in HB or any other detector for that matter. I have x totally disabled, but i dont disable k because i like to see where the k falses are coming from just out of curiosity. But you can disable x and k and u wont have any issue in OC. If your V1 or any other Detector alerted you to a laser/Lidar hit which came from a HB Leo or any other local OC Leo. Its to late to do anything. So thus the jammer is the only countermeasure to give u a few moments to slow down to the posted speed, then hit the kill switch on the jammer. U really only need a detector in OC for the toll roads like 73,241 etc, rare but on occasion there is one spot past Culver Drive on the 405 sometimes Leos have there KA on. Or if your driving on the 91,15,215 etc highly suggested. Then of course past Los Angeles into Ventura you have all kinds of Leos up there using radar. Having a RD on while your heading down to SD is a good thing too. But i read on the forums from some that Leos dont turn on there radar during that stretch around camp pendleton. Something about interfering with military bands or something. But thats not confirmed but heresay so i dont take any chances and have it on anyways. Because im always seeing Leos pulling over people for speeding during that pendleton drive. Im just not sure what they using. Possibly laser...
**See previous post about Long Beach / Signal Hill area using KA.

Congrads on your purchase for a returned unit. All shipped-out units are checked out at Valentine before shipped. X3 on turning off the Ka Guard (#6 arrow down) and watch the V1 light up at every Cobra around on Ka. If not, call Valentine for they will make things right!

K is used in Orange County ... Santa Ana and Orange for sure. I've had K tickets in both cities.
If OP has doubts about Ka working then a trip down the 5 to Tijuana last night would have been a good idea. Mad crazy Ka hits all the way from OC to the border. There is ALWAYS 35.5 at the border coming from somewhere too.
Re: New V1 Owner in SoCal - Having Doubts...
Thanks for all the responses. :)
Had my first non-false last night.
I picked up an electronic speed-sign emitting K-band from at least 2+ miles away. A LEO was camped out in a dark parking lot near the sign. Only 1 bogey shown on the V1 so I'm not sure if it was the LEO or the sign itself.
Nonetheless it was cool to actually have a non-false alert. :D
Still no sight of Ka so far... maybe I'll try turning off the Ka guard like everyone has suggested, just to test it.

Yes I only run ka and Laser. Laser is on so I know when I am owned, k is off since I have very little chance of encountering a LEO using it. Makes for a very quiet ride.

So do you feel better about your V1 now?
Re: New V1 Owner in SoCal - Having Doubts...
Look at it as an investment that will pay for itself over time. I would add a LI and you will be well protected for years to come in any area. I plan on adding an LI soon to my counter measures.
Re: New V1 Owner in SoCal - Having Doubts...
@spartcus:
Yes, finally having a non-false was pretty cool.
I won't be returning my V1 like I previously starting to consider.
Freebird put it perfectly; an investment.
I'm a little bummed that it's near useless in the city I live in, but I figure nothing has really changed - I didn't have alerts before and I probably still won't - BUT I do have alerts in neighboring cities that I travel in so that's a plus.
It will probably be a godsend on long road trips as well.
I'm sure I will appreciate it more over time. :)
For now I have my settings the same, but using big L mode. Along with the K automute, this keeps it relatively quiet around town and a quick switch of modes keeps me 'protected' against K in other cities.
