I'll end up getting the product as soon as it comes out, just because it's fairly cheap and the hard wiring is a winner however I've already got me car hard wired. Although I'm no expert about what Saavy is...so can someone explain to me what are the potential of this product and integrated with the V1?
Maybe Valentine is clinging on to the enthusiasts who still have faith in the future of the company. I mean $80 for an upgrade from a new V1 bought less than 6 months ago? I hope I'm not right about this, it's just the way the last few years have unfolded in the industry. Cobra's going down the drain, Escort engulfed Beltronics. Valentine is standing in the way of Belscort from total domination. I feel like its Apple vs. Android. They never lead, always follow (band segmentation, etc).
It's easy to bm and rage over Savvy, but please don't take this as one. This isn't bm, it's just my rant and work is currently mind-numbing -__-... I had hoped that Savvy was some form of Escort Live or Radar Active (V1 dedicated and which is awesome!) It would cost about the same to get the Radar Active module to Savvy. So V1 fans, don't be bummed, you can always get that instead =)
I'm not the most educated person on Savvy so I feel kind of stupid for posting this (ready for the bm, keep me entertained at work!), but it's a slightly different perspective... i think. Regardless of this, there's still a bit track left on this coaster and I'll definitely ride it out. ^_^
The only benefits of tapping into the OBDII port I can see are what Savvy provides..........a +12v power source and vehicle speed information. Speed info can be used to set a threshold for alerts to relieve you from hitting that mute button under a preset speed (which Savvy does) and a few other things which Savvy doesn't do.Quote:

As a computer engineer I was excited to read about this upgrade. It's actually a cool feature, I'm 99 percent sure there is some type of microprocessor in there that is required to pull data off of the ODB CAN network to decode it; it's not as simple as it sounds. And providing a convenient, clean, effortless way to hard-wire power is a huge plus.
Anyone know how this interacts with powering the car on and off (like will it kill power to the V1 with the engine off, or would you have to manually turn on/off the V1?)

While the OBD2 power is not switched power, the Savvy does turn off the V1 when the engine is shut off.
