What performance do you suspect the case might alter ?
Great question. My first detector was a Tandy all metal case sensors looked forward only. All my Uniden are plastic cases that un-obstruct 360' performance. A magnesium case makes me wonder about 360' detection. Besides that, the case is very expensive. Why?

Ha - my 1st RD was a Radar Sentry (well before your time,I suspect).
The case is more expensive b/c plastic is made from much more bountiful cheap as dirt crude oil.
You don't really get 360 degrees detection b/c there are only 2 antenna Horns in the Uniden - not 4 Horns each pointing to 4 different compass directions. So-called 360 degree coverage is implemented via a ratio of incoming signal strengths received/compared between the Front & Rear Horns.

    :-(

Mike is a great guy. His age has nothing to do with the product and if anything shows his experience and wisdom in building products. He is obviously a very blessed man to be able to continue doing what he is passionate about. Also assuming it's his last round or however you put it makes no sense to be. None of us are promised tomorrow, and Mr. Valentine could be selling his products long after we are gone for all that we know. Life is a gift. All we have is this moment. We can't go back and we have no promise of tomorrow.
I tend to lean toward Alabama. He's old, they never improved the hardware for more than a decade, and software updates are no excuse for that. The "old fart" must prove I want one, and I don't. Amazon has none, so it's like the new Chazcron Stingray that never showed up on a dealers lot.

Mike V may be a senior citizen & granted he may have a few wrinkles to iron out (heh,heh,heh)- bad pun I know....but the Gen2 has a great future once the current faults are fixed. I'm much less positive his SAW-DDL electronics will be able to handle the difficult modulation schemes the European Mfgr's of Speed/Redlight cams pose here in the USA.

When you get your V1G2, do you have to spray it with Raid?

Vortex took the Valentine off of his favorite list. He wrote: The big issue with the V1 is that there have been some serious flaws with the early V1 Gen2’s. One third of V1 Gen2’s have died and need to be sent back for power failure issues. Luckily fixes are now available for existing detectors and all new detectors will be shipped with updated hardware. This mostly has resolved the issue, but unfortunately a few detectors have continued to die even after being repaired. A functional V1 Gen2 paired with a phone is a pretty fantastic all-around package and I really like it (it’s why it’s on this list), but due to the reliability concerns, I can’t fully recommend it until the problems get fully resolved. That said, if you’re aware of the risks and you want to pick up a V1, make sure you buy it directly from Valentine to ensure you get a warranty. Valentine will not honor the warranty if you buy it from a reseller off of sites like Amazon or eBay, or if you’re the second owner. Only buy one brand new at this time in case you also need your detector repaired

Well, not going to deter me from buying a VG2. Still intending to purchase on by Labor Day.
