What's with all the hate?

1. drive a bmw or porsche. 120 feels like 80mph. Is it safe? depends on the traffic. These cars are more than capable to drive safely at high speeds. From the story it seemed like there wasnt any traffic.

2. This is a radar detector forum. People SPEED. Why flame the guy?

I've set my cruise control at 130 driving to the US GP F1 race @ Indy in 2003. Open highway, flat land, clear day, super light traffic, Why not?

Driving at night at 120+ is not a good idea... you are over-running your headlights.

Take some DE's, learn your vehicle and drive hard. Be smart and drive hard. Save it for the track but hell, you gotta let her breathe every now and then!! "Sorry officer, I was cleaning out the carbon deposits"

I have driven fast, but come on. That's ridiculous. Sorry it just struck me as a story you would hear in the locker room at highschool. If I offend you guys I am sorry.

As always I will posit that there is the posted speed limit, and then there is the speed at which a certain vehicle and driver can operate safely under the given conditions.

120MPH on a public road hardly ever falls under those criteria. A long empty bridge on a sunny day is an example of when you might be okay doing that. Aint nothing unexpected gonna come at you from the sides on a bridge. If you screw up, you go into the water, sucks for you. There aren't alot of unknowns in a situation like that.

Consider this, if you are on a road with a 55mph limit, and you pass somebody, a lone car on the road with you at 120mph while they are doing the limit, it is like flying past a parked car at 65 mph, literally getting within a few inches of the car. Not many people would do that as passe as passing a car on the road seems, but the risk is greater on the road since both vehicles are moving.

That is one of the least intellectual remarks I have ever heard, just because you got going that fast on a road(and lived to tell about it) does not mean its built for that. :roll:

Basically what your saying is: Since you can make it up to a speed on a road without getting into an accident, or without any problem... you should be able to go that speed, because obviously the roads can handle, and were designed for such speeds... as we can see from your 'safe' navigation through them.

Which is of course absolutley flawed logic...

With what your saying on any 1/4mile road... (heck even those around the city) I should be able to go about 125MPH on it... since I can successfully get up to 125+mph in the Quartermile, and if I can do that on a road... it is obviously possible to do such speeds, it makes the road designed for such speeds, and obviously safe for such speeds...

As for BMW's and Porsches being made for those speeds, sure their race Homoglate cars. I mean a BMW 328i is certainly not such a car... not even close (nor is a M3).

I think when I am cruising at 30MPH in the city it feels like I am walking, just because my mode of transportation simply laughs at those speeds, and it IS a race homoglate. It is just funny how everyone thinks they have such material... I mean one must realize they are driving a passenger car for petes sakes (wether is be a BMW or Porsche).

:roll: these cars are engineered for safety, high performance, and handling. BMW is world class. 8) Homologate you mean? Hmmm you drive an officially confirmed race car as a daily driver? Do tell.

why are we even debating this? His V1 performed well and he drives a sweet ride. :D
