Re: Whistler with superb Instant on at GOL 2009
Cobra is just a good Constant on radar detector. Whistler focuses on brief and very fast quick trigger instant on alerts. I have never ever had a problem with Constant on from Whistler it always impresses me for miles.

Re: Whistler with superb Instant on at GOL 2009
Whistler made a very good showing. Mike must be proud after this event.

Actually the 9960G I have has picked up a lot of instant on since I've been using it. It has alerted about as frequently as my 695 has. However, it's impossible to measure how many alerts the Cobra may have actually missed. I got about 3/4 a mile of detection against forward facing 35.5 instant on today.
On another note, my gf drove to Texas and the 695 did a great job for her. She even had a laser encounter that the Whistler alerted to whenever she said the car in front of her was shot. She ran into A LOT of instant on and was overall very happy with the 695's performance. Half of the LCD screen went out though, I'll probably send it in to Michael B within the next few weeks.

Talk to GOL and send them your Cobra 9960G for testing when they test a redline and such. :)

I guess that is distressing if you:1. Think C/O is all that matters.
2. Ignore the fact that "rock bottom" of the high and mid performers is still quite respectable performance. Look at the margins.
It ain't about all that. It's about the big picture.

Don't believe that for a second. I can assure you that Djrams80 is among the most objective and honest members of this forum. If he thought Belscort was the end-all/be-all of detectors, he wouldn't still be running a V1, and he were biased, he wouldn't have been the first to video document the Q/T shortcomings of the 9500 series for us.
He's simply saying that, for his purposes, the Whistler does not suit his needs, and knowing the area he drives, I have to agree with him. And if there were a $150 dollar detector that did fit those needs, he'd be the first to admit it.
There is nobody in GOL without that level of integrity. And if there were, you can be sure you'd hear it from the independent observers present at every test, including myself. Give the guys a little credit.

That's what I plan on doing. I certainly don't expect the Cobra to fare as well on instant on as the SE series but we shall see. By then I'll probably be using a different detector anyways. Haha.
The thing I still don't like about this particular detector is the ramp up and all of the falses. Those need some major work because there is no excuse to have such bad ramp up in the price range they want to sell the Cobra for. Also it has misidentified bands before which is also inexcusable.

I'm really shocked Whistler's were tested with POP on as it is factory default.
On Average with POP OFF. The Whistler's gain 2-3 db's with pop disabled. Mike B highly recommends this. I understand it is factory default and that Mike B and Whistler want to protect everyone from POP. GOL said there was no difference on side tests but i disagree with 45,000 miles driven with REV C. But It is what was tested. Everyone has arguments on there brand. What can you do?

Re: Whistler with superb Instant on at GOL 2009
Rds are like guard dogs , you want them to bark to every suspect
sounds ....but then not to every sound above the noise floor ...
very hard to achieve ;)
The beauty of banned area is that we dont have choice :D
The day Whistler is rddproofed could be not so far ...105 feet is quite
an achievement
Every dog needs a master :)

Re: Whistler with superb Instant on at GOL 2009
it seems like the radar detectors tested were pretty random. why was there a whislter xtr130 in the spectre test but not in any others?

Re: Whistler with superb Instant on at GOL 2009

Jerry540i bought that somewhere for like $30. We tested it because he brought it and it was a blind, retail purchase. That's it.

GOL should have tested the Pro 78SE and XTR-695SE. Whistlers two most popular units.
That would have made common sense to me!:dontknow:

All of the Whistler SE units have the exact same platform and all perform identically. 78SE, 690SE, 695SE, no difference.

Keto has totally disappeared, ever since I offered to drive to NorCal and personally test RDs Whistlers with him.

He still logs into RadarReviews.net though, so he is obviously avoiding this site. I'd bet he's reading all of this stuff, but doesn't login.

So GOL should have tested only one Whistler unit. If all Whistler SE units have the same platform why test more than one model????? Why test more than one model in any manufacturer thats running the same platform for that matter?
It does not make common sense to me that XTR-695SE was not tested. I will leave it at that.

We tested two SEs at each test site, four total, so that the SE results could be compared to each other so that we were confident both were working properly.
The two SE models I bought were purchased when they were first released, when the XTR-695SE was not yet available. The other two SE RDs were supplied, free of charge, by buyradardetectors. They do not currently sell the XTR-695SE, so they supplied what they had, which was a Pro 78SE and an XTR-690 SE.
There was an XTR-695SE at the event, but it was the one that Michael B had sent to me for testing, so since it was not a blind, retail purchase, it was not tested.
People complain about everything. Do you know how much money we paid out of our own pockets to put this event together? It cost alot of money and time to do this. Any place where we can save a little cash here and there, we do. Everyone seems to have all these ideas/complaints about how things were or should have been done, yet the money donated doesn't reflect the demands.

Thank you for the explanation! I understand why now! Since I did not know why. I was really curious. I am pretty new to the whole RD thing. I feel Better now. LOL Seriously, thanks!
