XTR-695 Speaker

It looks like the speaker on XTR695 has started to go. It sounds like a sick duck slowly dying. My 78SE is still running\sounding fine. I am going to make sure and bring the 78SE into the house every day as I am sure this 110 degree heat is what killed the speaker on the 695.

Can hear it now as that sexy female voice alerts: "Ka Band... QUACK QUAACK QUAAAack Quaaa..aack quaaaaaa......ack"

Now that i think on it, if Whistler could accurately filter falses, she should say "QUACK QUACK"

On a serious note, there seems to be an epidemic of speakers going bad around here. Maybe setting the volume control on something less than full might help prolong the speaker life???

Although lowering the volume wouldn't work in my Jeep as i can barely hear that voice with all the tire, wind, chassis, AC/heater blower and chassis noise...and thats with the volume cranked all the way!!

I forgot to add that with all that vehicle background noise in my Jeep, the radio/CD is typically cranked up also. Most of the time i don't even hear the voice alert just the anemic beeps under all that background noise.

What would really be cool is to somehow have the detector patched or blue-toothed into the car's speaker system. Same for CB radios. Problem is if the radio is cranked up during an alert, the whole world would know about it.

Better and more practical yet would be a small auxiliary speaker-amp dedicated to the detector (or CB) only. To avoid any messy speaker wires, the speaker could be blue-toothed or the audio might even be able to be transmitted via the car's +battery wiring barring any electrical noise related problems. The remote speaker-amp could get its power from either batteries or plugged into the cigar lighter socket.
If blue-toothed and battery powered, this remote speaker-amp could ideally be clipped to the windshield visor or anywhere else.
The RDers internal speaker would also alert in addition to the auxiliary speaker as a fail safe.

Wow..perfect fit! It was as easy as unplugging the wires from the 330 mainboard and plugging it into the 695 board. The horn on the XTR-330 is TINY!

Well...that lasted for 2 days. The new speaker just started crackling and died. I am guessing that something went bad on the mainboard causing the speakers to blow?
