Question Do Troopers Have (photo) Cameras?

So I was FLYING to a friends house for the 4th of July, and had a bad feeling about getting caught at the bottom of this HUGE hill. Well as I proceeded Northward of 35 over the PSL, I spotted a State Trooper running very selective I/O. I saw him and detected him at the point of no return, so I FLOORED it. I guess it was fast enough, because he didn't chase me. Needless to say, I got off at the next exit and chilled for a while. Got back on the highway a few minutes later, and saw the same one pulled over with a customer. So he WAS pulling people over...

My question is: Do any of you know if some state troopers have cameras for license plates of speeders they know they won't catch? It was just weird because he didn't even turn his lights on, but he 100% I/O'd me.

    **** dude...35+ with no rabbit...

As for the question, I don't think the technology is there. Hell, the video camera only comes on with the lights. You'd be talking about a photo radar gun/camera mounted to the front of the vehicle that automatically centered and zoomed itself on the center of the strongest signal.

Yeah, not typical of me AT ALL... but I was in a hurry for fireworks and refreshments.

The technology I was thinking of would be similar to that of a speed camera, but maybe minus the flash. I don't know - it was just eerie how he didn't even flip on the lights...

Anyone else heard of anything like this?

BULL****. You were running 35 over he hit u with IO. So you speed up and elude pursuit. He either did not get you or you were not actually doing that speed.

I know a couple people who have flown my LEO's on their motorcycles going 100+ mph without the LEO giving pursuit. I just think maybe the officer figured he had no chance of catching you. But giving chase to a street bike that can go upwards of 200 mph is a losing battle IMO.

I think the technology is here. The LE departments just haven't spent the money on it yet. Plus, I suspect there are legal considerations. They give people speeding tickets in England via camera, like red-light cameras here. I'm not so sure that would hold up in courts for speeding in the US. However, I believe it is coming.

Yeah, bummer. Gotta love the slow legal system though! Hopefully it never happens.

Fire65, I'm not looking to brag or debate what happened, I probably just dusted him, and he realized it wasn't worth pulling out into traffic around a corner on a highway. (smart guy) He may not have even gotten my speed - fine. I was just curious if anyone had heard of this. If not, cool.

There's increasing controversy about officers engaging in high speed pursuits, which it would have been, at least during the catch-up portion of his run. I don't know if any rules of non-engagement have yet been implemented anywhere, but it does seem a good suggestion that, as an alternative, he radioed a description of your vehicle and your speed so that someone down the road could pick you up more safely and easily.

By getting off the road, you may well have saved yourself an unpleasant encounter.
