Default Rain-x and aquapel detector performance

I was just curious i just put some aquapel all over my windshield. Aquapel is super rain repellant if you didn't know. Just wondering if it hurts the performance since it puts a clear coat over the windshield. My pro 78 is mounted high above my RVM to the left and the wipers do not clear the rain off in front of the detector cause they are not long enough. I will run some tests on it this weekend. The clear coat last six months

Rain-x has never done anything to my radar detectors against radar sources at all.

How do you like aquapel? I tried it and hated it. I could not get it off my windshield for the longest time. It made my wipers chatter soo bad. I made sure my windshield was very clean before I applied it.

I've used both products, neither should have a measurable effect on radar.

As for the products themselves: in my experience Aquapel does last significantly longer than RainX, but isn't quite as effective, I would have to be at a higher speed with Aquapel for the whole effect . I only experienced wiper chatter in a couple of situations with either one, but nothing major.

Ur windshield has to be very clean before you put it on. I'm a auto glass tech and i put it on everyday but never on my own windshield until today. Aquapel is good stuff. It has to go on evenly across your windshield with small overlaps and then rub it in your windshield very quickly.

You guys know that aquapel was originally designed for airplane windows right? So that kind of dictates that it was me for high speeds. I have never put it on my car but have applied on other people's cars.

Crap pisses me off with the windshield wiper thing. The coating gets onto the blade and then its just annoying as hell.........

I believe they sell their own windshield wipers which I would think would solve this problem but hell thats just more $$

    JOkeR and jimbonzzz -

Have you guys tried the various silicone-impregnated windshield wipers?

I'm hooked on the PIAA SuperSilicone, but I'd well imagine that the others would do the same job.

It literally self-renews/re-applies the silicone "wax," with each stroke. And since both halves of the equation is silicone impregnated, there's no chatter.

I replace my SuperSilicones about once a year, but if you live in a more temperate area, I'd well say that they can easily go for two years.

Pricey, but worth every penny when it's nasty out.

I also make the a sacrifice when it comes to windshield wiper solution ( although I really don't know why, as I'm well capable to mix it myself ), I really like the RainX winter solution, which very, very quickly melts ice - but leaves a residue on the surrounding glasswork and paint (which doesn't harm the paint, it's just that it doesn't look all that great).

I've sworn by it ever since getting caught in an ice-storm on the PA-Turnpike back in '98. I'm still convinced that, aside from my tires and general car-care, it's one of the reasons why I was able to make it to my destination, on that particular very, very nasty and accident-chocked day.
