Default RX65 vs old Bel 980?

I went from a Bel 980 to the RX65 and I can't help to think that my old 980 had way better range that my newer RX65 and I'd like to know if any of you have experienced this also? With my 980 about 80% of the time I would start getting alerts 2 or more miles away and a few times it picked up officers 7+ miles away. My RX65 hasn't done this once and most of the time I have less than a mile of warning. When I first received it and was running it unknowingly in International mode the range completely sucked! Then when I set it to USA it got a lot better but I miss those alerts that the 980 would give me because most of the time it would take me like 5 minutes to get to the officer. Either way I'm not complaning with the performance I'm getting because it has saved me quite a bit of times already and it does false a lot less than my 980 but I think that it might be at the expense of the range. So I would appreciate it if you could tell me whats the furthest out that you've picked up actual radar and what version are you running. If anyones interested, I have a v4.5 that I bough in December of 2005.

Where did you get your RX65?

I bought mine on ebay and it came sealed in the box with the serial number intact and it also matched the number on the box. I even called Bel as soon as I received it and had them check the serial number and they said it was authentic and that it was made the 48th week of 2005. This is about 2 weeks before I received it.

I really wanted to like the RX65 more than I do, but it isn't as good as my STi or V1 in any band. I've seen some videos of the RX65 doing some amazing detection. Although, I know mine doesn't come close to those hot RX65's. But like they say, factory variance plays a role in the sensitivity. Some units just come out better than others.

I still think that as far as detection goes, my old 980 was better but I'm not at all disappointed with my RX65. Up until now it's given me more than enough warning and just last I week was doing like 93 mph on my way up from Miami to Orlando and I had a lady following me. Then the RX65 went off and started climbing quickly so I knew I was closing in on the trooper fast. I changed lanes quickly and slowed down to the speed limit and the lady behind me blew by me at the same speed. Needless to say about 3/4 of a mile up ahead the trooper was hidden in the trees on my right hand side shooting his radar almost parallel with the street with nothing on the other side for it to reflect off of. Even under these conditions the RX65 picked up the KA band at least a mile away and as soon as I passed the trooper, he took up behind me to nail that lady. So after that experience, you can be sure that I'm happy with my RX65 and I'm sure that lady that got hit with the $300 ticket wished she had one.

Relative to the BEL 960, the RX-65 v6.1 has slightly less K-Band range but it absolutely never, never false alarms. Even with POP enabled. I find this an excellent trade-off. I run BEL 940 and 960 in CITY ALL mode due to Ka falses and find this setting to be very functional--almost like the v1's bogey-lock tone. I only hope the RX-65 has improved laser sensitivity.

I have a BEL 795 and I like it over all, but my 25 year old uniden picks up X and K band speed traps much faster and further.
ALL new RD's suffer from the same problem; RESPONSE TIME
The fastest on the market takes 700 milliseconds to respond and the worst take more than 2 seconds!!
A radar detector that takes that long to respond is COMPLETELY useless.

I won't say that you don't have a valid point here, but your information is incorrect. If you really believe that 700ms is the "fastest on the market", then there is something wrong. Also I fail to see how this would make a detector "completely useless"... perhaps you could enlighten me.
