Default new RX65 has overdetection of laser :-(

I bought a new Rx65 from Radar Roy in Feb 2007 and I notice since getting it that it frequently overdetects laser signals. Is this a faulty unit or just oversensitive?

One clue is that it *does not* always detect laser in the same spots during my usual 60 mile route to work.

Anyone else with this problem? Should I get help from Bel tech support?

Most detectors will laser false with bright sunlight, neon signs, other cars brake lights, and nav screens. The RX65 is not know however to be very prone to laser falsing. Do you have it near a screen or light source in your car. What time of day is it falsing? and where is it mounted?

Sounds like a noisy electrical system to me, the belscorts have been known to false on Laser because of this (moreso the X50, but both).

Its on the windshield but low lying (just over the dashboard). There is a portable Garmin GPS unit on the dashboard. I guess that may be the problem, but it's happened before w/o the Garmin present. It happens more so during the day, even cloudy Illinois days. Thanks for the info and advice.

I also have an Escort 8500 x50 in another car for several years and never had a problem like this on it. I bought the Escort in 2004 so maybe it was before Escort company was bought by Beltronics...

Actually it is the other way around. Escort purchased Beltronics, and it happened around 2000 I think...

I have a Bel Pro RX65 v6.1 mounted low and I have never get a false laser alert yet. I have using it over 5 months now. The weather here is hot...
Also all the times that I have been shooted by laser gun(Lti Ultralyte 100) gave me laser alert!

Are you close to an airport by chance?
I drive by one everyday and if I am using one of my Bels or Escorts it will trigger laser alert.
Just thought I would throw this in to see if it helps any.

I think Mike Valentine recommends that you mount a v1 higher up for better laser sensitivity and to decrease the reflected sunlight which can cause falsies.

I realize this is an rx65 but maybe the same applies?

I have this problem as well.
It's in the same spots every day, both at night and during the day.
No neon signs, nothing obvious that I see.

In fact my detector, *at times*, seems to false more on laser than on X band!!!

My firmware is v3.2 if it matters.

It's a legit model ordered from Bel way back when.

Anyway I can get this thing upgraded from BEL because I borrowed an X50 and it's MUCH quieter on Laser falsies as is my original Passport.

The RX65 picks up real laser fine BTW.

    Any ideas?
