    Default STI Service Required

Got Service Required on the STI yesterday. I had the AC vent on it for about 200 miles and there were no issues. Turned it off for about an hour; turned it back on and in 3 to 5 mins it flashed service required. I reset the unit and it did the same thing. Then I took the AC vent off it and it never flashed again for the rest of the trip (170 miles)

Should I send it back? I never had the issue w/ my RX65 and I always put the AC vent on it.

I had the same issue. The heat messes with the calibration during the self-test and when on (if it is hot enough); hence the "Service Required" message. The unit should still function normally when under the a/c so there's no rush unless you are in a hot climate. You can also see if you can mount it somewhere that is out of direct sunlight like under the visor. Before your warranty expires, send it in and they will upgrade the firmware which seems to have corrected the problem.

So it did a service required because you had it in the AC? Weird.

Maybe what happened is that it got used to the cold AC, you took it off, and the temperature rose relative to what it was used to? Then, as the temp rose and the detector got used to that temp, it "felt better." I don't know, just a guess.

I have the A4M9 version and I just got it back from Bel. It was working fine until I started to test the laser detector on it by using my cable box remote. It set off the laser but then unit flashed "service required".

I don't think the AC has anything to do with it.

I have move mine to the visor mount now, so the car will get hot by the unit will stay cool to the touch.

That could be. I have said it before and I will say it again, for 450 dollars you shouldn't have an issue with this detector in a lifetime. The thing is 2 weeks old. What burns me is...you have to pay 15 dollars to ship it back. BTW it is A4M9 also

What kind of comment is this? Are you just F'n with me or do you actually think that I do not know this?

Yeah I feel you... I'm waiting on mine still from Beltronics. Though mine wasn't showing service required... it definitely needed it though.

Hmm, is it often that Bel/Escort products do this kinda thing? It sounds like it's far from a rare occurrence, and customer reviews on various sites allude to similar problems.

V1's have similar problems as I vented my opinions a while ago.

The good thing with Bel is that once your warranty is up it only costs $60 to get the unit serviced again.

The A4M9 is the latest firmware for the STi at this time. Their is rumors that a new version will come out for the 33.8 fix. I doubt their will be a fix but they will just add this software to the new units or units sent in for service.

Like the professor says, a RD is used in a very harsh environment and it has to be bang on, or we get a ticket. The service required is like a regular maintenance on your car, just this take 3 weeks to get done.
