Default Adding a 2nd alert LED and wire to the STI smartcord?

For some time now I've been thinking I'd like to add a LED into my dash that flashes during an alert. This would be just like the red LED in the smartcord that came with the STi.

I've thought about taking apart the smartcord box and relocating the red LED into my dash. Or just somehow adding a wire lead from the red LED circuit in the smartcord box, leaving the existing LED alone and adding a second LED in my dash. The wire that would run from the smartcord box to the dash would be about 36"long.

Is this possible? If so, do any of you have suggestions on how to do it?

    Thanks for the help.

That's a nice install but not quite what I want to do.

I'd like to have the button on the smartcord in one place (near my shifter) and the red led up near the guages on my dash.

The led will sit behind one of the unused red lenses in the dash.

I've been wondering if I can open up the smartcord box, possibly unsolder the existing red led, then solder in a 36" pigtail with the led on the end of the wires. Put the led behind the red lense on the dash and be good to go?

I think REB Inc would prob. know the answer to this, since he modifys V1 remote displays.

Another thought, a few weeks ago there was a post on a company that sells modified smart cords, where the mute button was seperated from the led, but I can not remember where it was posted.

That is what I was referring to, thanks for finding it. I wonder does anyone have it installed on their car? It has an option for a LED as well.

I don't see why you couldn't do this. It occurs to me that it might be easier to solder some speaker wire to the push button's normally open contacts, put the smartcord electronics in the dash so that you can see its built-in LEDs, run the speaker wire to wherever you want to have a push button, and then use a normally open momentary push button which you can get at Radio Shack.

Hmm...that seems like it would work too. Thanks for the idea.
