I am an owner of the BEL STi external RD.
How can I check to see which version of the firmware I have?
Also, what IS the latest firmware, and in case I don't have it and how can I get it upgraded?
Thanks!

Hi mystiky,
Bel/Escort no longer tie firmware revision numbers to the actual firmware code which is flashed into their radar detectors. Instead they use the firmware version to indicate specific ancillary hardware components which were used in your radar detector's production run. For example, and A4M9 STi uses an analog light sensor whereas a A6M9 or A7M9 STi use a different digital light sensor for automatically controlling the display brightness.
Anyway, to check your STi's firmware version, do the following:
-- With your STi plugged in, turn it off via its PWR button.
-- Hold down the VOL/MUTE and SENS buttons and while holding down these two buttons, push the PWR button.
-- Release all three buttons after 1 second.
-- Your STi should briefly display "RESET" and also briefly display the firmware version.
-- After doing this procedure you will have to again set any specific programmable user settings which you prefer to use.

I would call that the hardware version. As far as I know, there is no easy way for end-users to check the firmware version, other than by functionality (e.g., audio ramp-up.
