    Default STi 33.8 I/O save

Running my V1 and STi together last week (both hardwired high on windshield) travelling through Indiana on I70 I got a short burst of 33.8 on the STi; V1 silent. I reduced speed, and then silence until about half a mile later, when both detectors lit up full blast and I see a trooper in the median ahead, hiding behind a bridge support. I would have been cooked had I not had the first IO alert and a case where my trusted V1 alone would not have saved me ! Not sure why I didn't get the first hit with the V1 (all other Ka encounters on this trip were quite similar in response between the 2), but since the 33.8 flash, my STi has been smoking on this relatively rarely (for me at least) emncountered frequency.

    Good save.

On another note, while looking at the New Posts I thought this thread was posted by REBinc until I actually came in here.

That is not good for the V1. Which firmware version do you have?

It is possible the STi interfered with the V1, but I have to say I have yet to see my STi interfere with either of my V1s, a 1.7 (2.690) and 1.8 (3.826).

ISP is switching over from 33.8 to 35.5, but fortunately the STi is very good on 35.5.

How would you really know if they are interfering with each other though? Based on what i've read from various sources, one detector may be able to filter out the "noise" from the other nearby detector without generating any sort of alert, but by spending it's resources to do so, it reduces it's ability to sniff out real signals, thereby decreasing range. Since this is all happening behind the scenes, one would never really know that the range of one or both detectors is suffering.

My V1 version is 3.863. As I said, it otherwise appears to be working normally - it's only when you have this kind of comparison that you ask yourself questions. I naturally wonder whether the STI interferes with the V1 or vice versa, but I've run them together for thousands of miles now and there are certainly no obvious signs of interference or reduced range against known falses. But sure, it's very hard to say if the STI was not in use whether the V1 would have alerted to that first IO trigger. What I do know is that having both certainly saved me in this instance. Generally speaking, I like the combo - the V1 directional arrows and ramp-up complement the sensitivity and frequency info provided by the STI (which I run in tec mode for this reason)

Well you don't know for sure unless you go back and run them one at a time and compare the results to running them simultaneously.

My 985 will desensitize my V1 3.826 on 34.7 and can cause it to totally miss alerts on 35.5. I have not seen that drastic behavior with the STi though. The 985 did not seem to interfere with the V1 on 33.8 and the V1 would usually beat the BEL easily on 33.8. But the results are not consistent with interference. So while it may not interfere sometimes, it will interfere with other times.

One other thought do you have POP enabled on your V1? It will improve the response to short Ka bursts, and maybe even Ka bursts. Driving on central Indiana roads I do not get a lot of "J" outs so I leave POP on when I run my 1.8.

There is a reason that smart people all say that radar detectors interfere with each other and affect each other's detection range.
