Default New STi Driver - K Band Defect?

My new STi Driver is amazing on Ka band, but SUCKS on K band. I think I'm going to call Belscort and have them send me a new one. My 8500X50 and the 9500ix that I used, destroy the STi on K band detection. I know this can't be the norm, and it must be a defect. My job has a 4 K band door openers (double in and double outs), and before the other detectors would alert me while I was on the street perpendicular. The STi only alerts when I'm about to pull in the parking lot. When I left work today I went in front of it, beeped, turned left and it went quiet. I tried this on Highway mode today and it only alerted me to a Real K band threat when I was right on top of the police officer. Luckily I haven't sent the 9500ix back (60 day test drive ), so I can use that while I get a new STi.

Sounds defective to me. My STI is only slightly less sensative behind my V1. It should be real close to the 9500ix also.

    Hi Black06STi,

Your new STi is not defective. The STi's latest firmware has some new and rather sophisticated algorithms which help it to ignore multiple K band door openers until you get fairly close to them. At first, after my STi was flashed with the new firmware which fixed the audio ramp-up issue, I too thought that K band was defective on my STi. Trust me -- it is not. I've had plenty of long range K band alerts to cops using K band radar. Most likely you experienced sheer coincidence by encountering a cop who flipped on his K band radar only after you got fairly close to him.

I just wish the STi Driver had Expert mode, since the police in Middletown, RI (one town over from Newport), like to sit right in front of a door opener/ false location on the main road. There is a lot of wealth, so maybe they caught on to the 9500ix's truelock, but it's probably just coincidence!

I thought Highway mode would just be super sensitive on K with no filtration. It beeped at two locations in a remote area, so who knows. I've been getting a false weak Ka going around a bend in a congested residential area where there has never ever been an officer. I doubt it is looking through 5 streets of houses to the next main road where they sometimes trap. When I have more time, I'm going to search for the source!

I interviewed for a new job that also sells Escort, so maybe a 9500ci is in the cards

Sorry I should have remembered the new filtering on the STI that filters automatic k-band doors better then previous STI firmware. Thanks MEM-TEK.
I would put more seat time on that unit to evaluate its k-band performance against real LEO's . Congrats on your new purchase! I am really pleased with my STI's performance.

I prefer running spec mode. I use it to determine the threat type 35.5.34.7,33.8. In my area city cops use 35.5 and highway patrol uses 34.7. Its also nice to be able to notice a cobra false since its freq is not close to any LEOs freq in my area @ 33.xx. 33.8 is not used here locally so anything I see 33 is a false.

I think the STI does have a expert mode, I think it is called something different like threat display. But it works exactly like expert mode.

Threat display is different from expert.

Expert can show multible signals within the same band. like multible ka signals but threat cant show multable signals within the same band.

Threat shows multable signals but only one per band

The STi's Threat Mode simultaneously shows you the signal strength of radar being received on each radar band. This is the way Threat Mode works on all Beltronics radar detectors which have this optional display mode. Escort radar detectors which have the optional Expert display mode are capable of simulateously displaying up to 4 X band signals, 2 K band signals, and 2 Ka band signals. This assumes that the detected signals within each band have enough of a frequency difference in order to be recognized by the radar detector as separate signals. Additionally, Expert display mode displays the signal strength of these individual signals in the form of vertical lines of varying height.

I find that K band range varies on the STi. But when there is real police radar, it sniffs it out quite nicely. The only problem I have is around-the-curve K detection disappoints me.

I don't think the 9500iX is that much different in respects to K band. I personally do not trust truelock yet, nor will I for a while. There is just too much at stake.

Late last night my briefly STi sniffed out a K band radar gun which had been inadvertently left on in a patrol car parked two blocks off to my right at the police station. My low mounted 9500ci missed that alert.
