    Default RX65 First Impressions

I got my RX today, was impressed by the packaging & case. I mounted it, plugged it in and turned my truck on (acc).

It fired up without issue, I had everything programmed in about 3 minutes. I must say, it was easy to program. The RD was much more stout than my previous Cobra (Which is now "Property of the Queen"). The RD feels MUCH more solid and has a bigger lens, too. I mounted it low (But not all the way low) and level so that it can pickup laser F&B along with maximum range.

I REALLY like the smart cord. Not only does it provide a mute function & show socket power, but if you hold the button in, it adjusts volume up or down!

Sweet first impression all the way around.

I would like to share my first impressions as well...

I have been using my RX65 Pro for about a week now. Version 4.5 and black lettering on the case instead of blue. It definitely feels solid and well built. I have just recently come from a Whistler Pro 58, and a RadioShack POS before that, and I have noticed that the RX65 will not alert to some of the known area falses that I saw before with the other 2 detectors.

In this case, you get what you paid for - better filtering technology.

The RX65 is supposed to be one of the best at detecting a real threat at long range. I have not had a LEO encounter yet with my RX65, so I cannot confirm that.

I bought the direct-wire kit from Roy and I have it mounted above my rear-view mirror. It keeps it cool in in the tint-strip, and out of sight from thieves and LEOs. I like the fact that it rests on the windshield while being held in place by the suction cups. It stays firmly there, where my Pro-58 would wobble.

I am running Highway mode (until we get a solid answer on what AutoScan really does) with X-band, Ku-band, POP and SWS disabled. Also running International mode for Ka.

I am very happy with the configurability, filtering and performance so far! 8)

Just a note, you may get decreased detection and NO laser warnings (Too high for all but the furthest hits aimed at your license plate) mounting in/near that tint strip.

The manual specifically says to mount in a clear area away from obstructions (Front and Rear) including the tint strip:

Mounting Location...Where to mount RX65. For optimum detection performance, we recommend the following:

    • Using the Windshield QuickMount, mount
your RX65 level, and high enough on your
front windshield to provide a clear view of
the road from the front and rear.

    • Mount RX65 away from windshield
wipers, other solid objects, and heavily
tinted areas that might obstruct the radar
    antenna or laser lens.

Thanks for the heads up, but I am not too concerned about Lidar in my area. If I travel down South or up North, I will probably lower my RX65 for the trip.

The tint strip has no significant effect on radar detection, which is what the LEOs use in my area.

Same here!! It's a good detector but a couple things I don't like are the display and voice alerts!! When mounted high it's very hard to read the display and the voice alert's well if the volume is all the way up the voice seem's to get crackly kind like when you turn the volume of your stereo all the way up and the speaker sound distorted!

On my X50 I can tell what band it's picking up by the tone, there's really no need for voice alert!!

I've had my RX65 for quite some time now (year and a half-ish) and I love it. I can change settings easily, and the alerts are very distinct. I ended up turning off the voice after a couple weeks, really wasn't needed. I don't care for the upwards-angled display, but otherwise, it's great.
