Bel 995 alerts before STI-R????

I just installed my STI-R today, and have been running my Vector 995 as well. MY STI-R is mounted directly under my front license plate, the front of the receiver being parallel to the front of the plate, with a clear view of the road with no obstructions at all. Before I started running the 2 together, I was just running the STI-R by itself, and noticed it wasn't alerting where my 995 would alert to falses (drug stores, convenience stores and shopping centers). I decided to run both at the same time tonight just to see, and the 995 alerted a couple times while the STI-R was silent. One case in particular the 995 alerted first, the STI-R followed a few secs. later, and then the 995 stayed with the alert while the STI-R dropped off and became silent. Also, the off axis alerts don't seem to be there like with the 995. Mind you the 995 has the older S7 horn and seems to be outperforming the STI-R all the way around.

Is this normal behavior for the STI-R? From what i've gathered from others on the forum here, the STI-R should be alerting well before the 995 even thinks of making a chirp. Can anybody shed some light on this situation? Does it seem like my STI-R is a dud? I'm very curious about this.

Not normal. What mode is the STi-r in? Mind posting a pic of the install?

Here's a few pics. Just took them, it's dark here so this is the best I could do for right now. As far as the mode, i'm running everything factory default with the exception of X off, and RDR off as well. Highway when on the highway and city when in the city.

Put a level on that antenna. It looks like it is pointed downward to me.

Also, edit out your plate number.

Ok guys, took some better pics today, and also checked the levelness of the receiver as djrams80 had mentioned. Once again, I did some more test runs and found an automatic door that was shooting K band.

The 995 alerted first with 2 bars and the STI-R was silent. I pulled up directly facing the doors from about 30 yards away in which case the STi-R finally alerted, first slowly then ramped up to almost full and the 995 ramped up accordingly to just above half. Once I started pulling away the 995 stayed with the signal where the STI-R dropped it as soon as it wasn't facing the source directly.

I pulled back around to face the doors again in the same spot, this time turned both detectors to spec mode and found something interesting. The 995 alerted to 24.169 consistently, while once the STI-R did grab the signal, it showed me it was 24.196. Shouldn't the signals be exactly the same?

I'm sure there's something going on with this STI-R, I guess it's just a matter of getting ahold of Bel to sort it out.

Sounds like it's busted. I'd call Bel tomorrow morning.

Have you had any encounters with actual police? My STI-R has significantly better filtering than my 955 or 965 had and doesn't alert to some of the falses that my dash mounts always did. I wouldn't make the decision that it is busted or not off of a door opener.

Maybe a silly question but is your sti on autoscan or highway?

where can i get one of those STI-R ?

As you know autoscan tries to filter K band falses. Try turning on RDR as your STi-R could be parking on your leaky 995. Then try the same thing again with HIGHWAY mode.
