    Default Frequency question...

With the sti we have the option to have the numerical frequency of the radar signal displayed for the "advanced" user. Does anybody actually use this feature? Is the frequency from a police radar different from doors at a grocery store? If so what are the frequencies the police use for lets say k band?

Yes i use spec mode sometime's just to see what towns run what units. K-band 24.150 and are the same freq. as store doors

K band is from 24.050 to 24.250. LEO's are around 24.150, and most/some falses are near the outer edges.

is it true that out of tune guns will be off the 24.15 Ghz K band freq? If it transmits at exactly 24.15 is it in perfect tune?

Depending on how your escort product self calibrates a LEO's frequency can vary a bit.

Hmmmm.......a properly calibrated K-Band gun can operate anywhere from 24.050 to 24.250 GHZ. 24.150 is just the exact center of the band.........but there are really two ways of looking at the calibration or "tune" of the gun.

For instance, you can have a gun that transmits 24.150 but is out of calibration and gives erroneous speed readings and a gun that transmits on 24.060 thats in perfect calibration and right on the money.

The tuning forks supplied with todays radars do nothing to verify the accuracy of the guns transmitting frequency. Rather they are used to ensure the gun is accurately measuring the frequency shift between the outgoing carrier signal vs the returned (bounced) carrier signal or Doppler shift.

So there are really two types of tune.

    1. Is the gun transmitting within the specified frequency bandwidth.

    X-Band............10.525 GHZ Center +/- 50MHZ

    K-Band............24.150 GHZ Center +/- 100 MHZ

    *Ka-Band..........34.7 GHZ Center +/- 1300 MHZ

    2. Is the gun accurately measuring the doppler frequency shift on moving targets.

    * Note: While we know that Stalker Centers on 34.7, MPH on 33.8 and Kustom/Decatur on 35.5.........they all say 33.4 - 36.0 GHZ on the antenna permitting them to operate anywhere in that range.

    That's Great thanks nine c1.
The more information the better. I use Tech mode all the time. Just nice to know what is being used out there.
With Ka slowdown, K caution and then slowdown and X speed (except in certain areas).
I now know that MPH and Kustom/Decatur is used most of the time but K is just not going away.
    Be safe and happy speeding.
