By putting them on back order, it prevents people from buying them now, and getting upset when the new version comes out a month later. Its just that all those units being on back order at the time seems very odd.
I asked Escort some time ago about offering a condensor lens as a hardware upgrade for my RX65(S7)........they said there were no plans to offer upgrades for "obsolete" detectors.

So then they roll out the X50 black with the condensor lens being the only real change from the old model.......and a different color case.

The S2 to S3 is a similar story with the exception of the new OLED display.

I might be tempted to buy a complete new RX65 w/condensor lens just to see how the M4 performs with a good lens in front and USA mode active. However, if I already had an M4 RX65, I would be put off by the fact that I had to buy a whole new detector just to get that lens.
I am not sold yet, my 9500ix is a good radar detector. But it's not heads and tails above the RX-65 or my 8500x50 (S7). It's just slightly better than them against on-axis threats. I like the looks of the x50 black, but not sure if that lense is worth me having to spend another $300.
The proof is in the pudding

So the initial R and D cost should be completely diminished by now.

Rob it really has nothing to do with the ability to add band segmentation or USA mode we know they can, look at the Euro detectors.

The bottom line is that they dont think Us Americans (and canadians) are smart enough (they might have a point, but not with the people here) They are afraid of people getting tickets after they shut a band off or encounter an out of tune gun and then coming here and posting that the detector is a POS and they just got a ticket.

I am the same way! I have an old 985 and I'm still amazed that a detector that's what, 10 years old?, can hang with most of the higher class detectors of today. So they won't service them at all anymore??

    samq45,

You make an excellent point (as much as this irritates me w/the RD maker mentality)esp w/the American mentality on blaming stuff on bad products instead of just plain ole self stupidity . I do feel however that if the RD makers would make it where you had to turn these band seg / RDR options on by demand I think everything would be ok IMHO Just like they do w/the STI-r and STI-r+ models you have nobody but yourself if you fail to neglect the owners manual (been there done that myself a few times ), but since it's more about sales w/the RD makers I think it might be awhile before we see these options come to the windshield mount RD market sadly . I guess we will have to continue on w/our hope towards forward progress for the future

yO...me too! Just ordered 1 like 4 hours ago!

BTW...if the RX65 is supposed to be a better RD than the V995, why are they the same price @ Bel's site?
