Default I have a Bel V995 S7 Plateform and looking to update?

I have owned my trust Bel V995 S7 Antenna for about 6 or more years now. I live in Michigan but don't do a lot of Big city driving. Mainly open Highways and freeways like I-75, etc.

The State police also use K band and KA and Laser

My detector once in a while always has the self calibrated 3 and 7 if left in the heat,

Do I go with a STi or Redline? I thought about the 9500ix for k false alerts and photo cameras but I don't know if that's really necessary for me.

So really I need a good detector without a bunch of K false alerts Members any good insights to help me make my decision would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Duane, MI

This is just my opinion but you may still be able to get your 995 serviced. If not, I would go with the magnum. Great range and great ramp up.

Thanks for the reply Kapro, I did read somewhere, I think on here a few years ago Bel service a guys V995 S7 and they just updated it to the M4 Platform and I believe he paid $99.00 + shipping.

I wasn't sure how good the S7 was still considered and also Bel would give $80.00 towards the Magnum STi and I called Escort last week and they Said they would give $80.00 also towards their Detectors too, Im just not sure if the Redline or the 9500ix would be also a good contender as those 3 seem to be the 3 Im really trying to decide on. The Gx65 looks good also but no Autolearn like the 9500ix for false alarms for the K Band.

I second the magnum. But if the $ are important, the new 8500 x50 black also also good. The black and the 9500 are built on the same platform and are equal in range but you pay for the GPS on the 9500. The 9500 is great in town were there is a lot of falses but on the highway you won't use it much. The V1 is also a great performer but hasn't been updated much lately.

I may have been "that guy"or one of those who posted regarding this situation. I'm rolling a rx65 now since the firmware on my 995 s7 could not be updated. I'm in NorCal and we have k band traffic drones everywhere. TSR was the feature I needed and it did the trick for me. I rarely if ever get k band falses now on the freeway. Sure I get them when I am in a safeway, target or CVS parking lot, but that's it. Highway is quiet for me now.

The s7 has slightly better off-axis detection than the m4, but the m4 has better (long) range. This was an acceptable trade off for me since I would get 12-15 k band falses driving my 34 miles one way to work. TSR saved the day.

I will get a GPS based detector at some point. There is no need for an STI or Redline unless you need total stealth. Otherwise a GPS detector is going to provide better versatility IMO.

Thanks for your input, I have been eyeballing that 9500ix as it seems more futureproof plus it has the Auto Learn for falses unlike the Bel GX 65.

I know everyone has their own story on different detectors, but this forum seems like a lot of help and honesty.

I do a lot of highway, freeway but go through a lot of little towns and a few Big cities.

So Yes the 9500Ix seems like a very good future proof detector as I don't travel to DC or Virgina, so I don't need Stealth...

Thanks for taking the time in replying my post on here.

That V995 S7 sure did me well for the 7 or 8 years of ownership, so I will probably use it in the$80.00 trade in. Unless someone else is interested in it on craigslist, etc.

You're welcome and I'm glad if my information was helpful. I have owned far more Bel/Escort detectors that what is listed in my sig. All have served me well. My 995 was 4 when I sold it on CL. Made someone very happy and took the bite out of my rx65 purchase. I'd grab a 9500 in a heatbeat. Be sure to buy the extended warranty. Covers your detector bumber to bumper. I have always been well taken care of by Bel/Escort.
