Default Beltronics STI Magnum auto shutoff?

Will the Magnum shut off if I hard wire it to a constant source, or will it just stay on and drain my battery? My whistler 78se would shut off automatically after a while...so far I don't see the Magnum shut off like that. I ask because I already wired it to a constant source and switched sources are hard to find on this vehicle.

    Thanks

I have only ever used an Escort Redline and a Beltronics STi Magnum, and both would not automatically shut themselves off. Devices that shut themselves off do so by detecting a voltage less than 13 as when the car is running the alternator usually has voltage around 14, and it usually drops under 13 when you shut the car off). For example, my Garmin GPS will do this, and it sounds like your old detector as well. The Magnum does not obviously.

Your Magnum probably draws .5-1A. That's enough to drain your battery if you leave it to a constant 12V power source.

How hard can it possibly be to find a switched accessory power circuit to tap in the car? Just go through your fuse box. Preferably, one inside the cabin, so you don't have to run as much wiring. Use a multimeter to check for a circuit that is dead with out the key in, and live in position II on your ignition and you have switched power. I highly doubt you don't have one fuse box on your car with switched accessory power. I don't buy your "switched sources are hard to find on this vehicle" excuse basically.

Your comments sound like troll bait to me. I have been an electronic technician for over 20 years so I know what I am talking about. Either things are easy or hard. I see what I see and you aren't just sitting in my vehicle are you? I hard wired my other 3 vehicles without a hassle, so now I am suddenly making excuses huh?

I observed that the detector won't shut down when the vehicle is off so I have ordered a fuse tap so I don't have to go through the hassle of rigging the wiring job or removing anything to get behind the fuse box only to have to cut wires then heat shrink and solder.

Maybe use your head before you start making posts accusing people of things.

An electrician for over 20 years and finding a switched power source is hard to find on your vehicle? Now who's trolling? ha ha ha

What make/model/year is your car? I highly doubt you don't have a fuse panel with switched accessory power to tap.

Your mom is trolling. No one said I didn't have a fuse panel. Get some thicker glasses moron. Crackhead doesn't even know the difference between an electician and an electronic technician. Stop wasting my time and everyone elses.

Good luck with your wiring job. I hope your boss doesn't read this and fire you for incompetence and lying on your resume.

How's that wiring job going? ha ha ha. Too bad I couldn't help you since you didn't tell me what make/model/year your car was so I could tell you where to tap for switched accessory power. But you're an electronic technician ha ha ha ha . . . sorry, you should be able to figure this out bwahahahaha. Oh man, seriously, how the hell are you an electronic technician if you can't figure out how to get switched accessory power from a fuse panel?!? Electronic technician, ha ha ha oh man. That's a good one. My engineer friends are gonna love this one.

i hooked my blinder laser jammers to a source in fuse box that is shut off with ignition. simply look at your id inside fuse panel or owner manual and choose the lights or radio fuse. these shut off when ignition shuts off. hope this helps.

hey guys....im an electrician and i managed to find the source. it isnt very hard if you just open the manual-if you lost it then google your make year car and look up fuse numbers and locations. not too hard.
