    Question Diesel vs. Gas Trucks

For me, I believe the performance and the economy on diesels are much better than gas trucks, but only if you chip them. My former boss just put a chip on his '07 Duramax Classic and is running at 23mpg and has about 650 hp and 850lb of torque. He took it to the track the other night and ran a 13 flat. That mother fu<kin thing hauls ass. Of course, we all know the 23mpg doesn't really matter because diesel is a dollar or more higher than gas now. What are your opinions?

    If it's a truck, diesel > gas.

If you care about economy, diesel > gas.

    No question about it.

Would I buy a diesel? Meh, I dunno. I don't let myself get worried about how much fuel I burn, but with some of the newer sporty diesels, I could go for one...have you heard about the R8 V12 turbodiesel that Audi is thinking about selling? I'd love something like that, a torquey engine but still sporty engine, not the 3000 RPM redline kinda thing in an old F-250.

How does the chip help the economy? It just dumps crazy amounts of fuel in there that can't help

I have no idea, but before the chip he was getting 10 miles to the gallon. Now its between 23 and 24 highway and 18-19 in town.

Maybe the chip makes his odometer count 2 miles for every 1 he drives

If his diesel has a turbo, the chip changes the boost curve, and in the process it's making the engine more efficient to boot.

True Dat, there are several different type of chips, most you will see a 1-3 mpg increase , the Duramax getting 23mpg is lite on the pedal driving, avg at 70 mph is 18-21, city should be about 14-16, this is for Dodge and Chevy diesels, ford Powerstoke is a lot less.... also diesel is only .50 cents higher (aournd my parts)than gas which isnt to much more ..... plus a lote more power than a gas... and you cant beat the sound of a diesel...
