    Default buying a hyundai tiburon

i am about to change my car and i dont have that much money , i am currently driving a chevy lumina 1995 v6 3.1 liter .

i was thinking about buying a hyundai tiburon 2001 for about 4000 $ canadian , but a lot of people told me not to buy that because its korean made and its a cheap car , some other said they were electrical probleme in it.

so i am not sure anymore , but i dont know which other car could do the same job for the SAME PRICE ,

i was looking for a 2 door manual car sport model , a car that would be ready to do bad winter .

so tell me guys what you think about that , buying a 2001 tibu ? if not what car should i take ?

Hyundai Tiburon is an ok car if you're (1) a girl; (2) gay.

If I was going to buy a 7 or 8 year old car it would probably be a Honda or a Toyota.

Hyundai's manufactured before 2003 are notorious for transmission problems as well as other various problems. I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent, and I had to have a rebuilt 2003 transmission and new torque converter put into it. The newer transmission has a larger throwout bearing which of course fits into the newer torque converter.

The other big deal about Hyundai transmissions is that Hyundai uses a proprietary transmission fluid. Its great stuff, but doesn't hold up to 30,000 mile change intervals. The mechanic who put the newer transmission in my car told me to change the fluid/filter once a year and that if I did this, then I wouldn't have any other problems with my transmission.

yeah i saw that many tiburon that was past 150 000 km did change their transmission but i thought that was the same thing with pretty much all cars , so ur saying that if i change transmition fluid i should be ok ?

for those who said that was a gay car , what would you suggest me ?

If I had to buy a car older than 5-years, i say get a Honda or Toyota engine. my 1991 Honda accord put up 300,000 miles over 15 years on stock engine and transmission before i wreck it. My current honda is a 2000 Accord. Purchased it in 2006 for $5,000. The only thing i had to do was replace clutch and timing belt. Hell, my toys in the car cost more than the car. Other cars may look better, more features, more power, but they will come with problems thats gonna cost an arm and a leg. Get a car you know thats has the least history of problems. Oh, my current Accord is on 150,000 miles. timing belt replaced at 100,000 and clutch at 130,000 miles. I JTG or pretty much near JTG with a ZR-4. Hope this helps.

The only way to know if the transmission on that Tiburon is still good is to drop the pan and check the insides of the pan for a very fine silvery looking residue. If you find any signs of such a silvery residue, then that transmission is guaranteed to start failing sometime fairly soon -- 6 months or sooner. The seller may have decided to sell the car because he/she already has noticed an occasional hard shift or that the transmission no longer instantly goes into reverse or drive when shifting with the engine is at idle.

As far as reliable older cars, stick with Toyota, Honda and Mazda, in that order. Don't even consider a car which, when the engine is cold, blows even a small amount of white smoke out its exhaust for more than 5 seconds after it is started.

    That's my two cents.
