Some of the people on here blame all of their problems on Cobra's.
Three Cobra detectors could have bought you a nice V1

Between my Cobra 9960G and my Whistler XTR 695 it's a toss up. The Cobra seems to be more sensitive but I noticed, just as veil guy did that when shot with instant on, the Cobra lags a bit by half a second or so before alerting. My Whistler will alert to I/O immediately along with my STI-R. Between the iradar and the XTR 335 the 335 would probably beat it out. I'd recommend saving your money for a higher end detector though, Perhaps a refurbished escort 8500 would be a good choice if you are on a budget, it will detect radar better than the two models that you are considering. If you are insistent on a Cobra the the XRS 9770 is cheap and uses their best platform, which is about equivalent to a Whistler Rev C platform at the least.(I haven't had the chance to compare it with the Rev C+) If you prefer Whistler than the xtr 695, xtr 690, pro 78(rev c) or the pro 68 SE are good choices as well. Most members on this board prefer the escort 8500, but I haven't personally had experience with that unit.

I agree with Divewjason, except I would recommend staying with the cheaper Cobra 9960G instead of the 9970G, unless you just want the touch screen display. This way you can save a little money and get the same performance. I have been pretty pleased with the 9960G, it gives K detection at about the same range that my escort 9500ix, but I hear it is a little slow to instant on and haven't had a chance to measure KA detection. One thing that I am a bit concerned with is even though it detects at a good range, the ramp up on the cobra is very slow until you are right in front of the LEO. This would sometimes lead someone to believe an actual LEO is a false detection by the very low alert level. It also does not offer the abundance of features the 9500IX has or the range that my redline gives, But if your in the market for a cheap radar detector with decent range and a GPS dtector then I would suggest the Cobra 9960G. I am also glad this thread has not yet been contaminated with all the bashing. I do get tired of the detector brand politics. sorry if I rambled/spelling/grammar, I am on my way out the door.

I think you may of inadvertently misread my post. I didn't recommend the touch screen 9970G which I view as a waste of money. I said that if he wants to get the best Cobra platform(he seems bent on getting a cobra.) then he should look into the XRS 9770 uses the same platform as the XRS 9960G and is cheaper. If he wants the bells and whistles though he can go for the 9960G. I do agree with you though, the 9970G isn't worth it if you are bent on getting a Cobra.

O-boy, this is my 1000th post! And may I say, buy the Cobra if you do not drive anywhere around where I drive so my Valentine will not start barking at your Cobra which is in heat. Cobras make other RDs false alarm. If you own a Cobra, your killing your swimmers! LOL. And making me wear out my brake pads.... Get a Whistler for it is a faster RD....
