In NJ they did away with having to put registration stickers on our license plates, so it's common to see old ones still on there.

I think in some states government plates are permanent; they don't need renewal stickers.

Lol, nice. Here in PA both our school buses and school vehicles (we have two separate plates to differentiate between them) have registration stickers on the plates. I think it's the same as it is for cars, valid for one year...although I have noticed some school buses have a lifetime registration sticker. I guess if the bus is owned by a government entity (like the school district) then it gets a lifetime sticker. If it's owned by a private company (like First Student) it has to be re-registered yearly.

School vehicles here also have inspection stickers (the windshield ones) but they aren't inspected often. Passenger cars have to be inspected yearly here, whereas I have seen school buses with inspection stickers that expire in many years. In fact I saw one today that expires in 06-2015.

Well, if you think about it, why do plates need to be renewed annually? It's to make the government money. When a government vehicle like a school bus gets a plate, having it need to be renewed every year, the government would just be charging itself and paying itself. So in a rare instance of common sense in the government, they made the plates permanent.

Wow. I never noticed that. That makes absolutely no sense considering they do more daily mileage than most cars and the consequences of a problem can be much greater.
