Lots of 9500i bashing lately in the forum but then again those with complaints tend to be heard more... so I'm gonna state why I'm keeping the 9500i
1. It works for me - I think the purpose of the 9500i is SPECIFICITY not really SENSITIVITY. I also have a X50(blue) and I can say that the x50 was definitely more sensitive than the 9500i. However my driving consist mainly of in city driving. So being able to block out the neighborhood Walgreen's or gas stations is great because the next time I drive by and it goes off I know to slow down. I think you have to consider the environment you are driving in. I think if you drive mainly highway then I would definitely go more toward V1 or x50.
2. USB port - although no software exists yet I do believe it will be available and you will be able to update software yourself without having to send in your unit. Perhaps even mapping software to see where your signals are locked out. Heck I bet there is some hacker somewhere reprogramming his 9500i right now.
3. SWS - not available on the x50
4. Why are arrows sooo important??? I'm not ripping on valentine but my thinking is that if my radar detector goes off I'm gonna step on the brakes. That is my only reaction. It's not like you got a lot of time thinking "Is this alert real?" If the arrow is pointing left right back or front what does it matter? You're gonna slow down right? I might be missing a point with so many people praising the arrows. I think not many people know that one of the senior editors for Road and Track magazine worked for Valentine... hmm....
Anyways that's just my thinking about why i'm keeping my 9500i. I like it and think it is worth the money. I use my x50 for country driving for the increased sensitivity. i just wish the 9500i came in blue too.
My settings on the 9500i are X off, Ku off, POP on, SWS on. Highway mode.
