Default Noob with quick hardwire question

Im trying to hardwire to my fusebox but dont know how using this. I know how to ground but to get the power to work, do I need a fuse tap? Im confused cause its not just a wire, its flat with flexible plastic around it. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

the plastic part you are looking at is made to go into the vampire clip they mail with the hardwire kit.

if you are not going to use the vampire clip you have a couple of options, depending on what size your accr, ign, fuse is.

for myself in my trans-am, the IGN fuse is the size of a single spade, or .25 inches. So I just lopped off the plastic part, crimped on my .25" spade, pushed it into the fuse and was good to go.

however on my EVO the IGN was a mini fuse. so I went to pep boys and they sale a mini fuse addon. its basically a fuse with a 12v power line running off of it. so with that all you have to do is lop off that plastic piece on the hardwire kit from Escort strip back the wire and mate it to the power wire on the fuse from pepboys.

    best o luck.

This is how I did mine. I used a " FUSE TAP "
I ended up cutting the Blade part off the Hardwire and replaced it
with a female connector that would slide right into the fuse tap.

The Ground wire is under the dash bolted to the firewall.

thanks for all the help guys. I ended up clipping the blade off the end of the power wire and used an "add a circuit" from advanced auto parts for 6 bucks and plugged it right into the fuse box. Installing it took 5 mins an was simple using that part. Thanks again guys. If anyone needs help let me know, this was soooo easy after having the right part. Heres some pics....

I would suggest mounting the RD to the right side of the mirror so it doesn't distract your eyes from looking at the road. Just a personal preference. I like my RD out of my way.

I like it there on the left side because that way when I want info on whats out there, I just look forward still as its in my peripheral as-is, also if I miss the audio when the system is turned up............ if I want keep track of multiple contacts its easier on the left, whereas on the right I would have to look away from the road to check on the screen........... not good........ for the same reason im looking to install a HUD on the car so I dont have to look at the speedo and tach any more

Would you happen to have a part # for that " Add A Fuse", I really like that install. Think I may get one myself. I see that it's a maximum of 10amps, do they make larger amps besides 10?

^ Roy carries both the standard size as well as the "Mini" on his commercial website:

7th item down, if my count is correct.

Note that the important thing is that you'll need to know if you use the "Mini," or the full-sized.

You can get them for around 5 to 9 dollars, however, from most local large-chain type automotive parts retailers (i.e. AutoZone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc.). You may have to search several different chains, as it's been rather commonly reported that certain chains in one geographic area will carry this item, while a change of geographic location, coincidentally or not, means that they don't. Go figure!

I found them for $5.98 at my local Advanced Auto but it states a maximum of 10amps.
My cigarette fuse is 15 amps.....
The fuses used in my car are the ATC style. ( Large Blade ).

There is a 10amp fuse beside my cigarette fuse but it's an Engine fuse.
If you scroll up a few posts, you will see a photo of my Fuse Box. That
Red fuse beside the blue one is a 10amp engine fuse. In The past,
I've always ran everything through the Cig fuse. Would it be safe
to use the engine fuse? How much power does the detector need?
