Default My Escort X50 doesn't work

I bought my Escort 8500 X50 RED last Christmas brand new. I've owned one X50 before and a Regular 8500, and both detected laser, as I saw them go off several times for it.

My current one doesn't. I just got shot with laser and it never went off. I left it on after I got pulled over and he was behind me shooting laser and it didn't go off then either as he pulled over two other drivers. I confirmed it was laser by asking the Trooper.

I used it in another vehicle today and the officer was shooting laser on foot there too and it never went off. It detects radar bands just fine.

Shouldn't my X50 have gone off if my Vette was shot with laser? Please help, as it's still within the 1-year warranty.

The X50 is very good at detecting laser. But, you can't depend on it to alert you in all circumstances when directly targeted, it could certainly miss laser hits sometimes:

For it to alert when other vehicles are targeted would be pretty rare, unless you're in the vehicle right in front/right behind the vehicle that the officer is targeting.

Thanks for replying. So what good is a laser detector if it's only going to tell you when you're being shot? By then they already have you, unless you're jammed. Perhaps they were using stealth mode both times, from what your site just showed me?

And going by that site and my only worries on my drive to work really are laser, I should sell my Escort and get a V1? That seems to have no difficulty detecting laser.

What version (rev #/FCC ID) X50 do you have?

I think Belscort improved the laser sensitivity on the newer (M4/Rev 6) X50 and RX65. See my thread here which shows a video where a new RX65 6.3 walks all over my X50 Rev 5 in laser detection, detecting the laser nearly as consistently as my V1.

If you have a newer X50 and it isn't performing well for laser, either it's defective or you have it mounted where the signal is being blocked. Where do you have your X50 mounted?
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Not sure on the version, but when I go to leave this evening I will have a look. Hopefully I'll figure out what to look for.

The X50 is mounted next to the rear-view mirror on my Vette, under the sunstrip. On my explorer, dead in the middle of my windshield. Perfect views front to back, no obstructions. I honestly doubt it's the positioning, since it's two different spots in both cars, positioned how the manual states we should. I think it's the detector and the damned thing didn't help me much in avoiding this 160 dollar citation. I did not know these had a knack for bad laser detection, but I will surely check the detector on my way out this evening.

The FCC ID # is on a sticker on the bottom of the unit.

To get the revision #, hold down all 3 buttons (two on top + mute on front) while turning it on. This will reset the unit to factory settings, and show the rev. number briefly when turned on.

Usually X50s are well regarded for laser detection, though not as good as the V1. I was surprised when I ran my V1, X50 and RX65 side by side while shooting my Pro Laser II in different directions. I expected the X50 to walk all over the RX65, but instead I got the exact opposite.

If laser is your primary concern, you should look into a laser jammer. Even a V1 won't save you if you're the target.

Laser jammers are pretty costly though and need to be mounted on the front of the vehicle, right? Unfortunately for me, I drive a Vette so I don't see where they could be mounted, and I drive from MD into VA and DC every day, so the detector is the only option I think I have if I want to stay legal. Put it away each time I cross state lines. I will get back to you on the detector info though.

Post up in the laser jammers section here. You should be able to hide your jammer heads in your Vette's grille/air scoop. What style Vette do you have? Do you have/need a front plate?

C5 99 Vette. Need a front plate but I don't run one anyway, since I use a car bra.

I'm pretty sure there are people here that have a Vette that also have jammers on. (eric maybe?)

If you're really worried, you could just leave the jammers off when going into VA and DC.
