I know exactly how you feel, the original 8500 served me much better. Since buying an X50 in 04 I have had 4 X50's. I also bought them at best buy, and would use the product replacement plan every time I got a service required/Self Cal. I went through 3 detectors in 18 months. The first two gave trouble messeges within the first two months, and the third froze. It was really weird, I started it up and it went through the sequence, but locked when it got to the pop on message. I unpluged and restarted, then it froze on the X display. I restarted again and it only made it to the K. I kept trying to power down and power up until it only made it to the "Passport 8500". Anyhow, the one I have now gives me some sort of trouble code about once every two weeks. I am really pissed at Escort, and I really love how my $500 Zr3 dosn't Jam all laser that is out there. My fix was to buy a V1, I really like it. People bash them alot, but if you program it right it dosn't false anymore than an X50 and it seems to perform better. (IMHO.) :?

    $59.99 to repair + ship

HOLY expensive just to get it recalibrated. What if it breaks again? Then again, I cannot afford to get a ticket.

Hrm. Guess I'll have to replace it. Any suggestions otherwise?

I've been reading up on the X50 on various forums. Apparently this is a common problem.

I may switch to the V1. Remarks? ops:

How long have you had it? It has a 1 year factory warranty if you bought it from an authorized reseller like Roy.

If not, see if you can buy the extended 2 year warranty for $30.
