    Default Escort8500 reliability

I own a Bel 980 which after 4+ years is starting to fail me with the wierd calibration code that apparently can't be fixed. I was thinking of buying the Escort 8500. Are these two RD owned by the same company? Im leary to buy another Bel product for fear of the same problem arising later on. Has anyone had any trouble with their Escort 8500 and would you recommend it?

I had problems with my 8500 x50 and many others have had problems with the Bel's and Escort x50's. The most frustrating part is dealing with their customer service when you have questions or want an answer. Are you looking at the 8500 or the x50? I did not hear as many complaints about the 8500, but in my opinion you still have to deal with their Customer Service Dept, so it is not worth it.

Remember the 8500 and x50 are not able to detect KU band should it every be a reality so it may be something to think about when making a decision. The V1, Bel995 and rx65 have the ability to detect KU built into their hardware already.

Many thanx Glockman. I didn't even think about the Customer Service part of all that (or lack of). I appreciate the KU band concern too. I need to keep that into consideration!

It isn't really a hardware issue, more of a software issue. They could turn on KU band detection easily on the X50.

Show me 1 instance of the 8500 or the X50 offering an "upgrade" in the past 5 years that they have "offered" it

Not that they WILL offer it, just meaning they COULD offer it as a software upgrade, and that it does not involve a hardware change (eg. no need to replace the circuit board, or CPU, or things like that).

My point is it does not come with KU detection and it would cost money to have it "turned" on. I also agree with LS1-Camaro that an upgrade is unlikely.

I understand that not everyone on here has the same opinions about the 8500 or 8500X50 but I can tell you that I have had nothing but good luck with both. I would highly recommend the X50 over the 8500 based on the fact that one of the biggest weaknesses of the first 8500 Vs the X50 is the first 8500 had very bad instant on radar range regardless of the radar band being used and this is the only thing I did not like about the frist 8500 but the first 8500 did save me from one laser ticket.

Radar Roy said that there will be a upgrade for the X50 to detect KU band once it becomes a issue in the U,S.
